For you guys that have made your own interior panels what did you use? I am wanting to make new kick panels for my Cambridge. I have the original panels but they are dry and fragile and was wanting to make something to recover that would be thick enough to last and work decent.  I’m not an upholsterer but figure since they are kick panels and will be low and harder to see I would try it myself and since they will be cut for 6.5” speakers there won’t be much material left to mess with lol. I’ve thought about thicker card board but unsure. Is there a place to order interior parts for these cars?  Thanks for any info and help

Well I don’t know if it is still around but several years ago a fellow POC member told me he bought sheets of the original material from a company near Madison, Wi. Of course I kept no record of the name as I didn’t need any but might be a place to start looking. You might ask at the AACA forum as well since the also have a large knowledgeable group of people. You do not have to be a member to post there.

There was a posting a few years back that there was sheet material that separated layers of trim on pallets that was a throwaway at big box home improvement stores.  It was a laminated paper material that was easily cut. Accepted adhesives, and paint,, bent to curves when dampend, and held shape when it dried.

Might be worth a deive around to loading docks and taking a look in the trash and compactor areas.

Hardboard from the home improvement store works well. If you want it a little more water resistant sheet abs plastic works too.

Buy a piece or two from a local (auto) upholstery shop made for doors and kick panels and is very reasonable priced and good with moisture.

My two cents, been there - - - ,

What thickness did you use? 1/16, 1/8 or 1/4” ?

what i used was .093, between 1/16 and 1/8. it's what my upholster gave me. said the 1/8 sometime caused interference problems and the 1/16 was to "floppy".
