harmony Posted May 8, 2020 Report Posted May 8, 2020 Recently I got curious about my engine size on my 6 cyl. 1948 Chrysler. While googling, I came across a website for powerwagons and they mentioned that the head of a 251 c.i. was 25 inches long . The 230 c.i. was 23 inches long. They also mentioned that the 251 had sharp edges and the 230 had rounded edges. Well my head measures 25 inches but as you can see in the picture it has rounded edges. ??? I'm assuming that the same would apply for the Chrysler spitfire engine, or are they different engines from the powerwagons? At any rate, can someone tell me what size engine I have? Cheers Quote
Sniper Posted May 8, 2020 Report Posted May 8, 2020 C38 would be appropriate for a 48 Chrysler and the factory never used the Spitfire head on a Power Wagon, so I dunno that it applies here. In any case, the smaller flattty was not installed in a 48 Chrysler by the factory. You have the bigger one. Quote

RobertKB Posted May 8, 2020 Report Posted May 8, 2020 (edited) 251 CID. In my opinion, the nicest variation of the Mopar flatheads. On another note, why is it that when I see a picture of a Mopar flathead, I just love it. Show me a Chevy stovebolt or a Ford flathead V8 and they do little to nothing for me. Both were decent engines and were in production for a long time but they kind of leave me cold. Of the two, I prefer the stovebolt because it is an inline 6, my favourite engine. I do like seeing other makes, like Studebaker and Hudson, which also had flathead sixes. Edited May 8, 2020 by RobertKB Quote
MackTheFinger Posted May 8, 2020 Report Posted May 8, 2020 RobertKB, It's just you.. ? Seriously, though it's all subjective, which for some reason brings to mind the SNL sketch linked below. I personally like V-8's. https://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/search/randy quaid vlad the impaler Quote
