Lots of trucks have had that for like 20 years. I think even some saturn sedans had it too.

as with some other third door cars...the Veloster comes to mind......back in mid 50's Dodge put the shift lever on the dash......guess where it is today?  While the rear doors do swing back...they however at not independent in their function..front door is opened first before the rear door will swing out...

when I read the title with the word comeback..I immediately said, not a suicide door...it is eco-friendly wind assist...

My 01 Sonoma has the third door, the female's old Saturn coupe had a a third door was well.

The 57 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham had the two doors meeting and sealing against each other.  The latch was on a post halfway up the body.   The post sloped in line with the front seat back.  There- I dragged an image: (Sorry, You'll have to go look up the image yourself.)
