austinsailor Posted November 14, 2016 Report Posted November 14, 2016 Some might say I went to the dard side, but I just couldn't pass up this 1948 Packard. Picking it up this morning. 6 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 14, 2016 Report Posted November 14, 2016 only thing dark about that car is its color...turn the Cormorant into the wind and let the good times roll....an unbent 327 is smooth... 2 Quote
T120 Posted November 14, 2016 Report Posted November 14, 2016 I like the model. Appears to be in very good condition. Have fun. 1 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 14, 2016 Report Posted November 14, 2016 if a light tan ragtop you would get he nickname "Doc Brown" of course the odds are you would be sporting a 356 straight 8 Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 14, 2016 Report Posted November 14, 2016 I believe the old carnival electric bumper cars had a grill much like the Packard as well as Chrysler and others. They have that sinister look. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 14, 2016 Report Posted November 14, 2016 it never ceases to amaze me the many facets of motorized vehicles, large and small and the following they generate in todays world of being artistically expressive....boys and toys will be forever joined at the hip Quote

Plymouthy Adams Posted November 14, 2016 Report Posted November 14, 2016 drive careful.....watch for lane jumpers when you try to keep a safe towing distance between you and the car in front..the idiots tend to think it is a 'free zone' just for them to occupy....most have never in their life towed a large trailer or load behind their car and have no clue the increased braking necessary ... 3 Quote
casper50 Posted November 14, 2016 Report Posted November 14, 2016 Nice looking Packard. Wish I still had my 48. Quote
Ulu Posted November 14, 2016 Report Posted November 14, 2016 That's one whale of a car 'Sailor. Quote
plymouthcranbrook Posted November 15, 2016 Report Posted November 15, 2016 I Like Packards, especially from about 46 to 55. Happy for you.(envious as well) Quote
Niel Hoback Posted November 15, 2016 Report Posted November 15, 2016 Yeah, that's it. Envious. Very envious. Nice looking car. You must be living right. Quote
austinsailor Posted November 15, 2016 Author Report Posted November 15, 2016 After closer inspection it appears the block leaks under the cylinder bank on the left side. Either a freeze problem or corroded through, but it really doesn't matter. It occurred to me I have a 331 Dodge 6 in good shape sitting here, 2" shorter than the straight 8. Hmmm.... Might just be what it needs. Adapter plate and motor mounts. I'll have to think sbout this. Quote
rb1949 Posted November 16, 2016 Report Posted November 16, 2016 Great looking in the pix, not even a for sale sign. A good deal joining your collection. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted November 17, 2016 Report Posted November 17, 2016 A 331 with a 5 and 2 would be the ticket for a big ol Packard. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted November 17, 2016 Report Posted November 17, 2016 Regarding the topic title, "the dark side", a beautiful Packard is in no way "the dark side". This is the dark side, built by commies to intentionally burn oil. 1 Quote

I was thinking the Packard 3 speed with an adapter plate between the Packard bell and the big Dodge. I also have a 315 Dodge Red Ram hemi in the works, 2 4bbl with tube headers. Quote
