Frieda PJ Posted November 3, 2015 Report Posted November 3, 2015 Does anyone know where I can obtain a solid state voltage regulator for my generator with a six volt positive ground system? On my 1935 Plymouth PJ Deluxe. Thanks! Quote
mopar_earl Posted November 3, 2015 Report Posted November 3, 2015 Don't know if they exist but you could install a 6v positive ground alternator with internal regulator. They also make the generator to alternator bracket too. Earl Quote
Young Ed Posted November 3, 2015 Report Posted November 3, 2015 Does anyone know where I can obtain a solid state voltage regulator for my generator with a six volt positive ground system? On my 1935 Plymouth PJ Deluxe. Thanks! I believe GGdad from the truck side sent his VR out to be converted. Quote
Frieda PJ Posted November 3, 2015 Author Report Posted November 3, 2015 Thank you, for your advice. I appreciate it! Quote
Merle Coggins Posted November 3, 2015 Report Posted November 3, 2015 I believe GGdad from the truck side sent his VR out to be converted. And the last I talked with him about it, it never worked right and the guy that did the conversion seems to have dropped off the face of the earth. Quote
Frieda PJ Posted November 3, 2015 Author Report Posted November 3, 2015 Thanks for the heads up, Merle. I'm having trouble. So, I thought why not go solid state. Quote
mopar_earl Posted November 3, 2015 Report Posted November 3, 2015 Anothed option if it exists for mopars, are alternators that are put inside generator housings to look like a real generator. I saw they make them for fords, not sure if they make them for mopars. Earl Quote
DonaldSmith Posted November 3, 2015 Report Posted November 3, 2015 The outfit is Gener-Nator, and they can convert your generator, or provide another one, plus a core charge. Their site says that they can do the Mopars, except the generators with power steering pump attached, such as the early 50's Mopars. I didn't check prices this time around. As I remember, they were quite expensive. Several years ago I got a 6-volt positive ground alternator locally, since I was not concerned with appearances. I grounded the wire from the starter solenoid that was connected to the generator. And I bypassed the old regulator. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted November 3, 2015 Report Posted November 3, 2015 I was quoted $945 for a Gener-Nator conversion. Quote
TodFitch Posted November 3, 2015 Report Posted November 3, 2015 I was quoted $945 for a Gener-Nator conversion. Ouch. I don't recall the price for the 6v positive ground electronic voltage regulator for my '33 Plymouth but am sure I would not have spent more than $100 for it. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 3, 2015 Report Posted November 3, 2015 its the going price for bragging rights I suppose.... Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 3, 2015 Report Posted November 3, 2015 I was quoted $945 for a Gener-Nator conversion. That sounds like the Ford price. Tell them it is for a Plymouth and the price should be considerably less. Quote
