Dave Armstrong Posted October 5, 2015 Report Posted October 5, 2015 Hi All, Just a quick post to introduce myself to the forum. I have just aquired a 1947 Chrysler Desoto 3 window coupe for restoration here in the UK. Here is "Wilma" as affectionatly named by my wife.....and I'm sure you can all guess why lol. I will hopefully share with you both the highs and lows of the restoration, together with extracting information for what I can't work out. All the best and speek soon Dave 1 Quote
casper50 Posted October 5, 2015 Report Posted October 5, 2015 Welcome and nice car. I hope that tire under it isn't holding it up. lol. Quote
hansen Posted October 5, 2015 Report Posted October 5, 2015 Nice to see a 3W coupe, she looks good on the picture. What is your restoration plan? Quote
Dave Armstrong Posted October 5, 2015 Author Report Posted October 5, 2015 Hi Lol no the wheel isn't holding it up. Basic plan is the get it structurally and mechanically sound. Smoke it about a bit as a rolling resto, then take it off the road end of next year for paint and detailing. Quote
doctor dirt Posted October 5, 2015 Report Posted October 5, 2015 Congrates, you only need 3 windows to look good! Your at the right place here, plenty of solid advice and options. Good luck and dig in..Doc. Quote
Mark D Posted October 5, 2015 Report Posted October 5, 2015 Congrats! Nice car! Did you make it over to the P15 Pic-Nic in Sywell last weekend? You're in with a great bunch of cars over there! Quote

Roadkingcoupe Posted October 5, 2015 Report Posted October 5, 2015 Hi Dave, Is your car a US built vehicle (LHD) or an export model? Might need to know that as you pursue parts. Quote
Dave Armstrong Posted October 5, 2015 Author Report Posted October 5, 2015 Hi. It's a lhd version. When I collect it I'll put the vin plate details up Thanks Dave Quote
Andydodge Posted October 6, 2015 Report Posted October 6, 2015 Dave, welcome from Oz............I won't mention the rugby if you don't mention the cricket............lol............looks like a nice car..........anyway when you go chasing parts with the Yanks don't mention its a "Chrysler Desoto" as its either one or the other and appears to be a Desoto.......lol..........although its worth following up what parts from a Chrysler will interchange as that could expand the search area...........I only mention this as we have a similar problem re the names used here in Oz and many yrs ago I realised that when chasing bits in the US its wise to make sure that you use the US terminology.........lol...........so forget wings, bonnets & boots..........lol.......anyway welcome to the best Mopar forum around .these guys know their stuff..........regards, Andy Douglas 2 Quote

Dave Armstrong Posted October 8, 2015 Author Report Posted October 8, 2015 Well all sorted. By this time next week Wilma will be in my workshop ready for the fix to begin. I will be taken many pictures and start a write up. Ta Dave 1 Quote
Dave Armstrong Posted October 15, 2015 Author Report Posted October 15, 2015 (edited) Picked up Wilma today, and now it the workshop. Attached is a picture of the chassis plate. Has some cool worn out college stickers on the bumper as college parking permits by looks of things. Can't remember what they said, but will post up later Ta Dave Edited October 15, 2015 by Dave Armstrong 3 Quote
Dave Armstrong Posted December 5, 2015 Author Report Posted December 5, 2015 (edited) Have now got A and B posts all braced and most of the old floor (what was left, after the previous owner had chopped out the rockers with out bracing ) Just got to fill the gaps. Edited December 5, 2015 by Dave Armstrong Quote
casper50 Posted December 5, 2015 Report Posted December 5, 2015 Dave looks as if your's is worse than mine was. One step at a time will get you there. Good luck. Quote
55 Fargo Posted December 5, 2015 Report Posted December 5, 2015 Welcome to p15-d24 Dave, hope you find it informative and enjoyable...... Quote
Dave Armstrong Posted December 5, 2015 Author Report Posted December 5, 2015 The worst thing was that the previous owner cut the centre of thexcellence floor our leaving just the centre tunnel and bolt in bit to the firewall. The new floor and rockers won't be as original or factory, but will look good Quote
Andydodge Posted December 6, 2015 Report Posted December 6, 2015 Mate, you have your work cut out for you.........interesting to see the trans setup from this angle............andyd Quote
jcmiller Posted December 7, 2015 Report Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) Looking forward to following this one. I have a '46 3-window Chrysler with a similar "floor." Edited December 7, 2015 by jcmiller Quote
Dave Armstrong Posted December 7, 2015 Author Report Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) Lol Jc, I take it that "floor" is a loose description. Done a bit more today. Cleaned up around the drivers side inner arch. Design spot welded the front closing panel and removed the previous repair, which was a small filing cabinet draw. Whilst cleaning found the stamping LS11 2 at the rear. Could someone else tell me what it means? Tag Dave Edited December 7, 2015 by Dave Armstrong Quote
