I know some won't like to see this photo ;), but I decided to prime the hood.  When I got to looking at it when I went to put it back on I realized how bad of shape the metal was.  So I used one of those paint and rust remover discs along with sanding, and got it to bare metal.  I used the Eastwood self etching primer in a can.  In any event, at least he engine area has all been painted now.  I figure if I work at it slowly I can get the old truck painted in time.

Paul, I was thinking you would squirm and loose sleep over that.

Hank  :D

He is not the only one ;) I have always been very fond of the way Dolly Doge looked. I do get it.....but I did like the way it looked.

Must have a bit of desert rat in me. I just hung the rusty old original drivers door off my truck in the shop. I plan on "lettering" it with a cutting torch to  make it into a sign.

Dolly, all is not lost. Paint that hood a matt brown and it will look great, then paint a recycle icon on the pack tail gate and maybe a road runner!

The dry climate in that desert is shrinking DD's brain! So sad! Like one politician said "a mind is a terrible thing to 'lose'"...

????????  Could have only come from PP

As much as I liked the look of DD..even I get it. DD needed some protection from the elements or things were going to get bad. Makes sense.

Long live Dolly Dodge!

I wonder how long El Scorcho will last in it's present condition?

2014 here in Fresno, Ca., from 1-1 to 12-31 we got 1.1 inch of rain. Now that is drier than a pop corn fart, so El Scorcho should last for quite some time.

Time made DD what she is today......back in the day, she was painted, rolled out of the factory and put to work.

There are pictures of her at work in her original form and color, this much we have seen.

Her efforts, the way she survived, the deeds she has done are all documented as well....she wasn't forgotten.

Today she is a truck with a strong motor and a new set of shoes. I personally have about 20 pictures on file of the

rust and dust that makes her the beauty in the recent years that she has been worked on.

If she continues to be sanded, primered, and painted......I look forward to it, she has earned it.

Putting a coat of paint on Dolly would be like putting a blouse on Venius de Milo!

Ther's a few of patina trucks out there I like. This is one of them.

I hate to say this........but I sorta feel the same as Paul.

me too,

Hank  :)

If DD gets to wear a new coat of paint, the patina won't be lost. It'll merely just be put on hold, preserving the ol' gal's bones for another cycle of weathering, to a point in the future where another generation (and maybe some of us well-matured young'uns) will pick up this conversation where it's left.
