ebruns1 Posted August 18, 2015 Report Posted August 18, 2015 Gents, Here's a question for someone that has experience with both the 48-50 B's and the 51-53's. I know there was a cosmetic front grill change after 51...but did that have any effect on the hood center panel? It is not clear in the PH knowledge section with the grill and hood diagrams. The parts numbers are the same for the left and right side panels, but I can't seem to find reference to the center hood panel. They look identical...just without the 48-50 upper chrome trim part. The reason why I'm asking is that my mounting tabs on the rear end of the hood where it sits on the cab seem way too tall. The sheet metal does not sit flush with the cab sheet metal, instead sticks up almost 1/4" higher. (I would send a photo but it's out being welded) Now I'm wondering if the PO bought a replacement hood but from the earlier year. If it is the same design I should be able to salvage it by cutting off those rear "L" mounting tabs and cutting them down and re-welding them back on. I'm wondering if I'm going to have an issue with the front hood mounts as well. I would love to hear from someone that might have both versions to verify, or has worked on both style front grills and hoods. Many thanks fellas! Quote
ggdad1951 Posted August 18, 2015 Report Posted August 18, 2015 I *THINK* they are different centers because of how they mount to the rad/rad support? Quote
Merle Coggins Posted August 18, 2015 Report Posted August 18, 2015 According to the Parts book I have the center sections are different part numbers for Series 1 & 2 and Series 3 & 4. Quote
Dave72dt Posted August 18, 2015 Report Posted August 18, 2015 according to the parts list, the parts numbers for the side panels are also different between the first 2 series and the 3 an 4 series. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted August 18, 2015 Report Posted August 18, 2015 1948-50 and 1951-53 are completely different. 1951-53 .. have a more slanted slope and slight V shape at the front area that rolls down to the grille panel. The B1,B2 and B3 and B4 have conpletely different mounts at the front too. 1 Quote
NiftyFifty Posted August 18, 2015 Report Posted August 18, 2015 Db4 has it all right, nothing from 48-50 in the hood area is the same as the 51-53 with the exception that the rear mounting tabs are the same, but that's it. I learned that the hard way when I had my 50 hood blasted and went to mock it up on my 51 grill. Good thing I didn't start the body work and waste more time and $ Quote
Brent B3B Posted August 19, 2015 Report Posted August 19, 2015 i have even noticed a difference in the hood support mounts between the 51 and the 52 on mine could be the series difference Dave72dt had pointed out Quote
48Dodger Posted August 19, 2015 Report Posted August 19, 2015 The butterfly wings....of the butterfly hood, are different too. The 48-50 comes straight down the sides with no body line. The 51-53 have a body line that forms a step around the hood area. 48D Quote
ebruns1 Posted August 19, 2015 Author Report Posted August 19, 2015 You guys are great! Thanks for all the info. I only wish the International D2 truck forum was like this one... 1 Quote
TrampSteer Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 Don't look for a center hood (ram) ornament for a '53. It wasn't even an option. (sad face) Quote
