Really?? My Luck...Ugh!!!!

I bought a new Lincoln Mig Welder Pro 140 about two weeks ago from Lowes. I finally got time today to open it up. Figured I would test it out.

Its supposed to come with 6 tips.

(3) .025

(3) .035

I put it all together, and noticed no tips were in the box. Really?? I thought buying a Lincoln I would be safe. Unreal!

I don't know wether to return it to Lowes, for another or call Lincoln, and see if they will just send me some. I wanted to practice today. Just my luck.

Since you have it out of the box, etc..........you might start with Lincoln.  Sometimes companies are good to send

something missing.  Then you won't have to repack it to return to the store.  If a negative response from maker,

then back to Lowes.  Just my thoughts.

Thats what I thought too. I was kind of shocked honestly, I read so many good reviews on Lincoln.

I will try their customer support number first, maybe they will mail me some. If not, I will return it, and not buy another. I don't feel like driving 45 minutes back home to have another incident.

Or go to Lowe's, have them get you the parts out of an inventory unit and give them the Lincoln customer service number...........that way you can use your tool while Lowe's waits on the tips to put in their unit.

I may try Lincoln tomorrow morning, and if they don't help me out, I guess I will see if Lowes does. Dangit, I really want to mess with this welder today. Never dealt with Lincoln, so I don't know how they treat their customers..

All the above plus just go buy a couple. They are a consumable item and are pretty cheap. I keep spares on hand as noting is worse than having to drop everything in the middle of a job and run to the store for some tips.  Also get a tip cleaner and gel to coat the nozzle.

oh okay, I am new to this. I was going to practice today. I didn't know about the gel. Or a nozzle cleaner. Here's the one I bought.

I will check those links out. That does have the hook ups and gauges for gas.

Looking at his link the photo shows what looks like a pressure regulator and the specifications say "yes" under "uses argon gas" and "uses argon/carbon dioxide mixed gas". Am I missing something?

I called Lincoln customer service. Wow, they don't mess around. I will have the tips in 48 hours. I better go get that Gel and Cleaner tool for thje tips. I am new to welding.

along with a wire brush and chipping hammer for removing the flux coating left on the weld.  That will need to be cleaned after each weld and before starting the next one which makes it a bear for welding sheet metal.  Sheet metal is more of a tack, tack, tack system than a  weld bead.

Lowe's visitor could have done their shopping for tips out of that box. (loaded extras to their purchase, or just took those)

They were supposed to be 2 different colors. The one that I ended up with had all 1 color, 1 size. Not a production line problem. Someone had done a swap out. They wanted all one size, and did not want to buy 2 packs. I was in a hurry and did not check closely when buying it. I wanted to get my job done, and made do.

yes I am sure. I have watched quite a few welding videos. My buddy has a welder like mine, and he seems to use the flux more than the bottle. He has been welding for years. I have not seen him use flux on body metal though.

People do amaze me. I mean the tips are not that expensive, just aggravated me, because I expected to open the box, and start practicing.

I noticed the hand held face shield was missing too. But I have a auto darkening hood, so I don' care.

So obviously someone did this. The welder and lines look untouched completely, you can tell this unit does not have a mark on it, and the lines were still rolled and tied like Lincoln did it.

Also, in the directions it stated the ".035" tip is already installed from factory. It had a .025 one on it. Someone bought it, and did not use it, and returned it and left some stuff out.

It sucks they weren't in the box to begin with, but you would've ended up buying some sooner or later & it's good Lincoln is sending some your way, just make sure you double check the size for the wire you're using. Lincoln Electric is a very reputable company.....their machines are "Miller Killer's". It's never too late to learn to weld, while your "practicing", look into a community college welding course....or 5. You'll find things to weld that didn't need it. The Gel is for the nozzle when MIG welding, which you would have to buy an adapter set-up for, I believe yours is set-up for flux core only, out of the box. A good hood with auto-lens is one of the best investments for any welder, the hand held face shield you don't need anyway, so you're not missing anything there. Good luck & be patient.....you'll put down a roll of dimes in no time. If you want to see something welding related and you have Instagram, search user "weldporn"....amazing stuff.

 

As for the OT forum comment, just messing around. The OT forum is "generally" (used loosely) for non Plymouth, Dodge, etc car specific threads....or something like that.....might be explained under the Off Topic forum header.

Ok, I assumed (I KNOW!!!) that it was flux core only, that's good it came with the conversion kit. Gel is for MIG only. I think there are a couple different gas mixes, check with your supplier & tell them what you're welding.....haven't MIG welded in 30+ years. Flux core only now, all structural with .072 wire.

When I clink on the link, it is for a watch, not really my style either.

Okay, I wasn't sure if I should use the gel for Flux core wire. At least I know now. I have .025 for the mig on hand. And .035 for the flux on hand.

I have a welding supply store not too far. I will get some advice from him on the mix I need in the bottle. He has been there forever. Well, I am turning 51 soon, and when I started driving he was there. So thats pretty long!
