Niel Hoback Posted September 26, 2014 Report Posted September 26, 2014 I appreciate your inaction. Some of those are just a waste of parts, time, and gas. Quote
ledfootslim Posted September 26, 2014 Report Posted September 26, 2014 I appreciate your inaction. Some of those are just a waste of parts, time, and gas. True, but some require true skill- and a lot of rat-builders I know only use parts and pieces that everyone else would turn noses up to! Quote

ledfootslim Posted September 26, 2014 Report Posted September 26, 2014 Because you can does not mean you should. True again.................but at least somebody is loving and driving it rather than letting it rot- and I like the slant six! 1 Quote
deathbound Posted September 27, 2014 Report Posted September 27, 2014 Wouldn't waste a snapshot on it, but you'd throw your money away at Harbor Freight.....go figure. For the record, I'm not a fan of rat rods. 1 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 27, 2014 Author Report Posted September 27, 2014 (edited) news flash...not all things are junk at HF...oh wait maybe it all is but there is a sun on the horizon... http://www.eastwood.com/intergrip-panel-clamps-set-of-4.html OR http://www.harborfreight.com/8-piece-butt-welding-clamps-60545.html they are the same thing...only one is repackaged and sold at almost the same price for one at the cost of 8 at the other..I am sorry but maybe my pockets are not as deep as others but I see certain car hobby oriented retailer preying on folks selling the same junk at an exorbitant price....other than paint color majority of that certain repackers stuff is same or at least the same quality at double the price and more..just have to shop wisely is all..I will not say ever that their stuff is top line nor would I buy my tools there and let a group of shop monkeys have their way with them...but with normal use and especially with specialty items you only have a call to use once in a while..you got many dollars in the ole pocket to further other projects..so yeah I shop discriminately at HF..at least they tell you their stuff is cheap overseas junk up front...I have bought a couple things at HF that have turned out to be less than expected..I have never had a problem getting my money refunded in those cases. TodFitch Posted September 27, 2014 Report Posted September 27, 2014 There are many things at Harbor Freight that are not worth the price, but there are a surprisingly large number of things that are pretty good deals. Some of those good deals might not be up to the quality and/or durability needed for someone in the repair trade beating on their tools everyday but are up to the level needed for a hobbyist. For example, the pin nailer I got a while back works very well. The safety on the trigger is a bit frightening, especially compared to the much higher reviewed pin nailers that cost many times more. But as long as you figure it out and setup some working procedures to assure safety it works fine. Were I running a business that used that type of tool, I'd stay away from it as I'd worry about an employee getting hurt. But for myself, being a cautious type around any type of tool that might hurt me, it is fine. And don't forget the freebies! In the junk mail that comes once a week with all the local supermarket coupons there is a Harbor Freight section. Often there are coupons for free, with no purchase necessary, items like little LED flashlights. For that price it is hard to go wrong with having one in every car and in the bedside table drawer. Don Coatney Posted September 27, 2014 Report Posted September 27, 2014 Over 40 years ago I bought an 1/2 drive air impact wrench at Harbor Freight and it is still going strong today. Last thing I bought at Harbor Freight was replacement sand for my spark plug cleaner reason being it was the only place locally I could find it in small quantities at a low price. Amazingly I cannot tell the difference in that cheep made in China sand as it works as well as the sand made right here in the USA. As has been stated selective shopping is the key. Quote
BigDaddyO Posted September 27, 2014 Report Posted September 27, 2014 The Chinese have certainly come a long way with their sand. Good news here is today is the grand opening of a Tractor Supply Company store Quote
