Dave72dt Posted September 29, 2014 Report Posted September 29, 2014 Sounds like a "been there, done that" response. I think most of us can relate. Quote

linus6948 Posted September 30, 2014 Author Report Posted September 30, 2014 Getting tired of splitting wood, will hopefully be done this week, acorns are falling in the forest like rain which the "old timers" say means a bad winter is coming. Quote
DJ194950 Posted October 1, 2014 Report Posted October 1, 2014 More acorns falling means more firewood needed? Your current pile would last the rest of My life with our Ca. restricted burn days. MUST use the pellets? to use on no burn days! Love a natural wood fire in fireplace in the living room. Grew up with that ever winter night! Hope you have the time to keep splitting wood! DJ 1 Quote

DJ That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw the pics, then read your post. Not because of restricted burn days, but because it doesn't get that cold very often where I live. Quote
linus6948 Posted October 1, 2014 Author Report Posted October 1, 2014 Unfortunately here in the mountains of NE PA the first snow usually occurs in October and we sometimes have April blizzards, there can be months when it looks like "Ice Station Zebra" around here. That`s when plowing the driveway takes over as my next hobby, keeping me pretty busy. 1 Quote
bobjob55 Posted October 1, 2014 Report Posted October 1, 2014 Wow ,,, plowing a driveway ,,snowshovels,, splitting wood,, things that made my dad leave Chicago 58 years ago ..spent a winter in Washington state ONCE....I'll stay in the southwest from now on .... 1 Quote
linus6948 Posted October 7, 2014 Author Report Posted October 7, 2014 For those industrious enough to hand split their firewood I ran across this article that I consider pure genius. http://www.woodheat.org/back-saving-tip.html Quote

Plymouthy Adams Posted October 7, 2014 Report Posted October 7, 2014 if people were not so danged lazy these days we would not have need for these contraptions... PS you can drop all split oak at my location in Elko if you have one of the above and surplus wood... Quote
Don Coatney Posted October 7, 2014 Report Posted October 7, 2014 Growing up my parents never burned wood for heat. Coal fired furnace in the basement kept us warm. Looked something like this. Quote
