Don Coatney Posted July 4, 2016 Report Posted July 4, 2016 Looked to me like the aluminum carburetors and fuel pump are painted. Quote
casper50 Posted July 4, 2016 Author Report Posted July 4, 2016 (edited) the carbs are powder coated the pump is painted the same paint as the engine. I always thought that the carbs and fuel pump were pot metal. Edited July 4, 2016 by casper50 Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 4, 2016 Report Posted July 4, 2016 Thanks, I thought there was some kind of coating on them. Quote
casper50 Posted July 22, 2016 Author Report Posted July 22, 2016 (edited) back at it last night. Shots of the rear fender wet sanded to 2000 grit, and buffed out but not washed off. Edited July 22, 2016 by casper50 Quote

Chazz 47 Posted July 22, 2016 Report Posted July 22, 2016 It looks like you put a lot of trust in a trash can. If it were me my fender would wind up on the floor. Quote
casper50 Posted August 12, 2016 Author Report Posted August 12, 2016 Sticker shock. Took the coupe in to have estimates for a new dual exhaust. Cheapest was $1000 - $1400. Am I living that far in the past or is that really high. Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 12, 2016 Report Posted August 12, 2016 This cost me around two hundred bucks 10-12 years ago. Quote
casper50 Posted August 12, 2016 Author Report Posted August 12, 2016 (edited) I was thinking $500 -$600 max. Don can you show me a photo of how they got around the left side of the gas tank? Thanks. Edited August 12, 2016 by casper50 Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 12, 2016 Report Posted August 12, 2016 This is the best left side picture I have. Quote
pflaming Posted August 12, 2016 Report Posted August 12, 2016 (edited) Just yesterday I called my tail pipe company for an estimate on my 53 suburban. $150+/- for a single pipe and California is not the least expensive state. Edited August 12, 2016 by pflaming Quote
casper50 Posted August 12, 2016 Author Report Posted August 12, 2016 I am putting dual exhaust on and Alaska is pretty expensive also but I believe they tried to sucker me. Thanks Don. Quote
fstfish66 Posted August 16, 2016 Report Posted August 16, 2016 can u spin your completed car on the rotisary ? you can buy generic kits from summit or jegs or speeed way motors, if u have a mig welder, or use those super wide flat stainless clamps you can do your own exhaust....or maybe do what u can if u want tails have the shop bend the tails,,, Quote
casper50 Posted August 16, 2016 Author Report Posted August 16, 2016 can't put the whole car on the rotisserie too heavy. Have one more place to check out tomorrow then it's up to me I guess. Quote
Fastback50 Posted August 16, 2016 Report Posted August 16, 2016 Put PB blaster and some Marvel oil down the cylinders a week ago. Seemed to do the job. Turned over by hand on the fan when I got the sheet metal out of the way. Still had one valve stuck. Worked it a bit and it started working also. Casper--your progress is very encouraging, keep up the good work! I was looking at pics of when you removed your cylinder head and am wondering what you used to get the deck and valve tops so clean? Thanks. Quote
casper50 Posted August 16, 2016 Author Report Posted August 16, 2016 That's the way it was when I took the head off. Lucky I guess. Quote
Frank Elder Posted August 16, 2016 Report Posted August 16, 2016 mebbe if you woulda took it in when it looked like $hit......instead of the pearl it is now.. that's pretty high price to me. 1 Quote
casper50 Posted August 16, 2016 Author Report Posted August 16, 2016 The $1000 is the lowest quote I've received so far. Quote
MacGyver Posted August 16, 2016 Report Posted August 16, 2016 For my last exhaust project I picked up all the pipe on my own, made careful measurements of bend locations and degrees and ends to be expanded (double and triple checked), and marked up the pipe. I took the works to a local shop and tossed them a few bucks to make the bends as I watched/instructed. When I got home I slapped it all together and welded it up. I don't know if that is an option for you but just thought I'd throw it out there. Heck, you could even use swimming pool noodles for about $1 each to mock it all up and make sure your routing is sound before moving on to the pipe. 2 Quote
casper50 Posted August 16, 2016 Author Report Posted August 16, 2016 I'm just about at that stage MacGyver. Going to try one more time today to get a decent quote. I've already been marking online searches for generic kits. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 16, 2016 Report Posted August 16, 2016 I think like Frankie, you should have had the exhaust work done prior...this was less than your expected total you posted....they did it exactly to my specs and the system was designed for easy in and out if needed.... 1941 Dodge Business Coupe.... 1 Quote
casper50 Posted August 17, 2016 Author Report Posted August 17, 2016 Fed up. Doing it myself. I've ordered everything I need. Just have to wait for it to get here. 1 Quote
