Since you're going to "hose" the box contents, methods for treating the cast iron can depend on the current condition of the contents.  There aren't that many cast iron parts on the truck, pretty much limited to the transmission, brakes and the engine.  I had assumed the part has previously been exposed to water and needed rust removal.  Oil and grease removal and prep for paint can be different than rust removal.

missed it...close but here's another hint:it is the frontmost cast iron part on the truck and it's not the block.

Hank;

Wow..........this is just getting to sound kinda chick-like.

Jeff

O.K. No chicken dinner and no chicks for you but there's a hint in the advice :You need to cool down".

I got you covered Tim, but I assure you your bad dream of seeing hungry people going through Donners Pass in covered Pilothouse Trucks on their way tro the BBQ isn't going to happen.

Please someone get it....so I can start the new thread all about it and get off Pauls.

Well, the front most cast iron piece that's not the block would be the water pump. But that box looks a bit big for that. The only other cast piece I can think of forward of that would be the grill medallion on certain B3's. But that is cast pot metal, not cast iron.

And here I was thinking this was a transmission thread. Maybe it is a cast iron drip tray for his leaky tranny.......that will double as a pancake griddle at the BBQ.

Jeff

If you want to stop the leaks you can run EP400 semi fluid grease. Quiets these old tranny's down real nice too.

A boogie board you're gonna pull behind the truck on Redondough beach!

I know of radiators that had top and bottom tanks of cast iron and weatherfronts with cast iron frames but I don't think either apply to your truck.

Dave comes the closest. It’s a Honeycomb Radiator in perfect shape. I couldn’t be happier !  To find out why and to please help me get out of Paul’s Thread (what’s it about Car vs. Truck Radiators err, no “Truck vs. Car Transmissions”

Paul I apologize for temporarily hijacking your thread,
