greg g Posted October 3, 2013 Report Posted October 3, 2013 This is a promotional shot for a movie that apparently didn't get released the actress is Helen Twelvetrees, Buck Jones is the actor. The movie was shot at Paramount in 1939 and had several working titles, Me and My Gal,” “Unmarried” and “Night Spot Hostess. There is a crest on the front bumper but no other ID marks. 39 was the year that many manufacturers were fooling with headlamp shapes so that this would seem to fit in to that year. Might be a custom body. Maybe the louvers on the hood might help point in the right direction. Quote
GlennCraven Posted October 3, 2013 Report Posted October 3, 2013 Ms. Twelvetrees is ... uh ... cleverly obscuring any hood ornament, as well. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 3, 2013 Report Posted October 3, 2013 the crest is similar to the Porsche but reversed barry.. Quote
Old Ray Posted October 3, 2013 Report Posted October 3, 2013 ... cleverly obscuring.......... Reverse cleavage so to speak? The headlight rings look very ’37 Ford-ish but it probably a Stutz or some other Hollywood special. 2 Quote
Mark D Posted October 3, 2013 Report Posted October 3, 2013 Headlights are remniscent of '39 fords. Also kind of remind me of the later 30's Checkers. Quote
Mark D Posted October 3, 2013 Report Posted October 3, 2013 We just wrote nearly the same response at the same time... Reverse cleavage so to speak? The headlight rings look very ’37 Ford-ish but it probably a Stutz or some other Hollywood special. Quote
Young Ed Posted October 3, 2013 Report Posted October 3, 2013 While the shape looks like 39 ford its important to notice those headlights are actually sticking forward from the rest of the fender. Also from the general styling I would place it more early to mid 30s not late 30s. I know I've seen those lights before but I can't place the specific model. Quote
greg g Posted October 3, 2013 Author Report Posted October 3, 2013 Well the car was a one off, custom built for the gentleman in the picture. He was most famous for his roles in early westerns. Here is a side view that will reveal the mystery for most of you, lets see if the Logo challenged can get it. Quote
Don Coatney Posted October 3, 2013 Report Posted October 3, 2013 Not real sure but I would say Buck Jones with his 33 Packard Special Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 Recognizing the "to each their own" mantra, but this is quasi-sacrilegus. Packards should have that Packard grill.....good thing for Ms. Twelvetrees there WASN'T a donut chaser on there. I oringinally thought Pierce-Arrow because of those protruding headlights, (perhaps Young Ed's "seen those before" dilemma?) Didn't someone post a vintage late 30's DeSoto photo taken in Australia recently? The Doll in that photo was Ms. Twelvetrees, too. Quote
