I was all ready to prime my cab today, except found out my primer is getting old.  When I went to order more epoxy primer  I find out Summit can't ship it to California.  A lot of the paints/primers  can't be shipped to CA anymore. So, California guys, what do you recommend for a good epoxy primer?  Or do I need to drive to Nevada and pick it up myself?  Anyone in NV want to go by Summit and ship it to me?  I'm stuck until I resolve this.

Looks like Ca and other states are protecting us from ourselves by mandating water born finishes. Gotta keep those VOC's in check. Probably going to have to learn to deal with it.

I heard some suppliers in Santa Cruz were still selling real paint (oil based). but that was about a year or two ago. Not sure if they've been raided yet by the state...

Have you checked local paint suppliers in your area as to what's now avail.?

Epoxy is probably somewhat better than what we have been using for some time here in Modesto, it's a polyester primer with a aceitone activator.

Still avail locally at a reasonable price??   Has gone up at lot recently! Why?

If Reg. could pick it up on his return may be a good bet. Summit warehouse in Sparks/Reno Nev. not too far off I-80

Otherwise, My nephew who lives in Las Vegas, Nev. plans to be in Modesto June 16th.. Could have it sent to him and he will bring it to Modesto, where I would ship it to you, Fed-Ex ground. ;)

Just another way if nothing else works out. :)

Best to ya,

Doug

Try TCP Global for your epoxy primer.  They're based in CA, have an 800 number and were very accomodating and reasonably priced for some supplies and material I needed.

The amount of solvent present in any said container of paint/primer is what is regulated. Basically the VOC's are the bad guy element. The laws in California are not uniform and complicated. So shipping is a risky venture for a lot of vendors and are careful to stay on top of the regs. In the case of Summitt....it might be the company doesn't want to deal with it, or their products do not meet the solvent limits.
