Desotodav Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 Your old 'Ramble On' truck came up a treat - well done to you Jeff. You just need to do that final minor modification installing the left-side external door lock and then you're getting close to all-done! I expect that you will have it within a few days now. Quote
Young Ed Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 Jeff you planning on painting the dodge in the tailgate????? Quote
Merle Coggins Posted July 6, 2013 Report Posted July 6, 2013 (edited) Ramble On... Love it. It's lookin' good Jeff. How does it drive? Edited July 6, 2013 by Merle Coggins Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted July 6, 2013 Author Report Posted July 6, 2013 Thanks Guys; I couldn't have got it this far without all of you and this group in general. There are still many things to do and with the limited time I can spend on it... it is probably 3 to 5 months away from being roadworthy. From the limited testing I have been able to do...... it now runs very smoothly. The 4 wheel disc brakes are totally cool and were well worth the time and effort. It looks better in the photos than it really is. Up close the truck shows it's age and there are plenty of scars, blemishes and ill fitting joints. But it's clean and should wear in nicely and that was the look I was after. I am using the burgundy color as an accent in the interior and will probably go with it for the tailgate letters. I am about halfway along on the insulation and sound deadening process. I want to be able to enjoy some long trips with this truck so this aspect of the build is going to take as long as is necessary to get it right. I have been in too many old vehicles that looked great but I couldn't wait to get out of them. I really don't want that to be the case here. Thanks again for all your help and kind words. I got to ramble on....... Jeff Quote
ggdad1951 Posted July 6, 2013 Report Posted July 6, 2013 where are the interior shots? I heard you had some nice parts to put in! Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted July 6, 2013 Author Report Posted July 6, 2013 Mark; I do have some goodies for the interior......including a beautiful heater thank you.......but they are mostly out now as I work on insulation etc... Here are a couple of shots as it is at the moment. Jeff 1 Quote
William Davey Posted July 6, 2013 Report Posted July 6, 2013 I have to ask what are all the switches for? Between the toggles on the panel left of the wheel to the double row in the center of the dash, it looks like you've got a switch for every light, each spark plug, both speeds of the wipers, and all three speeds on the heater fan with about 6 spare switches left over. I like the look, but curiosity is killing me. Quote
cavisco1 Posted July 6, 2013 Report Posted July 6, 2013 Wow! I really like the color. What is that color? Looks like a color I've seen on on some late model Dodge SUVs and trucks. I see there are some shoulder belts hanging in the cab. Were the shoulder belts difficult to install? Scott Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted July 6, 2013 Author Report Posted July 6, 2013 William; Well I opted to put the cable controls for the heater control valve, defroster and fresh air in the area above the dash emblem in the center area. It already had a lighter in that line on the right side so it seemed a good location for these other controls. The other item is the fan rheostat for the heater which was located there when I got the truckCable routing from this location works well too. I guess I am just not a fan of the stock below the dash pod that is typically used for these cables. The switches to the left of the steering column are for the cooling fan, a fuel pump, cab roof lights, a back up light and a really cool vintage under the hood trouble lamp I found. Each of these swithes will have a small indicator lamp below it. I am also planning on installing a couple of spare control cables here to lock the hood and manually disable the stomp starter. The plate I made basically mimics the glove box door in size and location. It covers the radio cutout which I was not going to use and the switches fit through the radio cutout behind the new cover plate. When it is all done I think that it will give the dash a more balanced look. I will probably mount a tach here as well. Since this truck is going to be my daily driver I have taken some liberties with the configuration which I feel will be an improvement to the standard layout. Scott; Thanks. The color is a single stage late model Chrysler color called cream. I am really happy with it and I get compliments from practically everyone who has actually seen it in person. The seat belts are a pretty simple installation if you have not already painted your truck. I had a fabricator buddy reinforce the door pillars for the upper mounts prior to painting the cab. The seatbelt kit came from Julianos and has some pretty beefy plates that I used under the cab floor. I have seen way too many traffic fatalities to be out on the road without seat belts. Jeff Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted August 4, 2013 Author Report Posted August 4, 2013 So one more thing checked off the list. Door glass is in and done! Can't say that installing all this was my favorite ptoject but it sure helps with the finished look. Jeff Quote
pflaming Posted August 4, 2013 Report Posted August 4, 2013 You did nice work on that dash, nicely balanced and just right amount of accent. To my eye! Great job. Looking forward to seeing the truck. Quote
Desotodav Posted August 4, 2013 Report Posted August 4, 2013 You got windows too now Jeff! Looks like the old 'ramble on' truck is just about complete. Well done mate! Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted August 4, 2013 Author Report Posted August 4, 2013 Thanks.....it is coming along. Almost ready to start wiring it. Got to back up a bit though and replace the throw out bearing and clutch. One of the very few things I tried to get by with....and of course the throw out bearing has started making noise. Oh well.
