Heat shield installed...95 degree temps!

I installed a heat shield to help with the boiling gas weeping over into the manifold. Not sure if the shield is factory, but I pulled it off my 54 Hy Drive parts car. A little sanding, paint and WALLA!

Two test runs, 8 mile round trip to the Dairy Queen, and another just in town. I notice manifold is "wet" but no puddling of gas. Still smell gas though under the hood. Possibly this is from the oil breather cap expelling old fumes that pass by?

IN the pic the fuel filter is hidden by the heater duct band. Pretty close to the manifolds!

I have a shield on my 1940 plymouth. I was all over southern maryland today( it's the wife's Birthday tomorrow) I must have done about 70 miles. the car never is hard to start after cut off. The temp reached 98. I pulled into the mall parking lot and it pucked about a cup. The way back it just ran almost pegged. In the wind temp came down. I got home and nothing. No boil over or anything I think I got the timing and thermostat right. temp is high on the gauge

100+ drive today. Gas still boiling in filter, so far no gas spewing into the manifold. Still have a gassy smell coming from the oil filler cap, and dipstick when checked. Until I drop the pan, or get the gassy sludge sucked out, gonna keep smelling I guess.

Has anyone given any consideration to the "Heat Riser", design, and it's ability to keep the carb heated up.

Say if the heatriser is stuck, usually in the cold postion, that would heat up the carb big time ona hot day, would it not.

Or if the heat riser flap was not seized, but still allows hot gases to move up ward, to some degree, allowing exhaust maniolf heat to heat up the carb.

Is this design the cause of the problem?

Was this a big issue back in the day, or is the modern ethanol blended fuel a problem, did old Leaded gasoline, have less problems in this regard.

I am not saying I am having a big issue with this, but have had the hot start problems and gas boiling issues in hot weather.

I do know my lawn trctor, and other small engine equipment, do not seem to have this issue, and those engines and surrounding areas get good and hot..

in regard to the temp gauge, where the needle is along the scale doesn't provide much information if you do not know what temperature the position indicates. A thermometer in the collat when the vehicle is at temp will give you a better frame of reference. It could be 120, it could be 190 depending on the gauge and the sending unit.

I would welcome an "N" problem, certain other forum recently upgraded and I have no input at all..can do evertything but enter text...so..in reality my entire keyboard is nixed..not sure if they can fix it..this moring I played a bit and decided to use the neewer operting syptem of the other computer..no probs..so it seems my computer I normally use has fallen into the abyss of the recent health care plan..gonna cost me more to play..

another thing.. under the carb in the manifold is a spring loaded flip/flop that aims ex heat up into the carb....i wonder.! lots of these are broken, like mine, or frozen....maybe it is frozen in the open position sending ex heat up into the carb body..?? possible?
