well, the pellets seem to have been working since I put them I don't *THINK* there has been any weeping so Monday after work I dug out my baby wire wheel for my Dremel and cleaned the paint off in that area and put on some JB.  Dimpled it with a rounded nail head to camo the "repair" from the casual glance...now just gotta wait till the garage is warm enough to paint it.
