DollyDodge Posted May 3, 2012 Report Posted May 3, 2012 I obviously pulled the transmission on my B2C when I pulled the engine (took the transmission off first). I was getting ready to get it rebuilt, but I am wondering if I really need to. It doesn't leak (yes it has oil), shifts good, sounds like it always did. I thought maybe I would just have the seals replaced for good measure. What do you all think? Quote
Young Ed Posted May 3, 2012 Report Posted May 3, 2012 Leave good enough alone. If it wasn't leaking I probably wouldn't touch it at all. Make sure the brake band is good though. Quote
HanksB3B Posted May 3, 2012 Report Posted May 3, 2012 "If it ain't broke don't fix it" Now if you were thinking about going the T-5 route, well that's something else. Hank Quote
DollyDodge Posted May 4, 2012 Author Report Posted May 4, 2012 I re did the brake band last year, so that part is ok. I am kind of glad to see a unanimous "don't mess with it response". I was kind of leaning that way. Think I will clean it up and paint it. Thanks for the input. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 I'm with everyone else. Leave it alone, but change the oil. Merle Quote

JBNeal Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 Replace the gaskets & seals, clean it up real good inside & out, slap it together, slick it up real nice & hoist it back into place Quote

Merle Lucky guy: "It doesn't leak (yes it has oil)" Pick one of these: (Not sure what weight the 4-speed takes) and it gets hot out your way. I know it's pricey but I know this is the best product out there! Merle do you agree? Please visit my Amsoil Site http://www.amsoil.com/a/synthetic-gear-oil?zo=1863033 Patina I could live with. HanksB3B Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 (edited) How about some discounts for P15-D24 members? I can definately do that, but the really best way is to become a "Preferred Customer" It's either $10 for 6 months or $20 per year (what I did). This enables you to get the complete Amsoil Product Line at Wholesale (makes a BIG difference). Start Here: http://www.amsoil.com/catalog.aspx?subcategory=50&zo=1863033 and Thank You, Hank Preferred Customers purchase AMSOIL products at wholesale cost, which is approximately 25 percent less than suggested retail. Six-month trial membership can only be purchased once; after the trial membership, Preferred Customers must renew on an annual basis. Annual memberships can be renewed Edited May 4, 2012 by HanksB3B Quote
Merle Coggins Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 Yup, I agree. I run Amsoil in everything I drive and I am also a Prefered Customer. Even paying the $20 per year to get that discount you still save money. I remember the first time I ordered some product (case of oil and filters) I was debating adding that $20 membership, but after I did the total was lower than before it was added. So the savings covered the membership cost and more. Merle Quote
DollyDodge Posted May 4, 2012 Author Report Posted May 4, 2012 Thanks everyone. It has clean oil in it, and I was suprised when I drained it and filled it after its 31 year sit, the oil wasn't very dirty (the engine was another story) Quote
Dave72dt Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 Is that the transmission you've been driving around or has it been sitting for 31 years and you're about to install it? If you've been using it and it doesn't leak, you're good to go. If it's been sitting, I'd replace the seals before installing it. Quote
JBNeal Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 31 years dormant? ya might want to examine the bearings & races for any spalling...anything not submerged in oil could be susceptible to condensation. Quote
DollyDodge Posted May 7, 2012 Author Report Posted May 7, 2012 I put new oil in it about 2 years ago and was driving it until I pulled the engine in december. It seemed fine, but the engine had some big issues. I was driveable, but it needed a rebuild. I just thought that since the tranny was out too maybe it should be rebuilt too, but the more I thought about it I wasn't sure Quote
DollyDodge Posted May 8, 2012 Author Report Posted May 8, 2012 Here are some pictures of my transmission cleaned up, well with a little dust on it, but it was power washed a month or so ago. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 If it was power washed I recommend that you pull the drain plug again to be sure there's no water in there. Merle Quote
DollyDodge Posted May 8, 2012 Author Report Posted May 8, 2012 Will do, I checked after the washing and it doesn't look like it has any water in it. I didn't really hit it very hard, just enough to get the dirt off. Quote
