While celebrating National Work On You Classic Truck Day, I pulled the gas tank out and there was something ratteling in it. Poured out what was left of the 30 year old gas, water, and whatever else was in there and out came these 4 lead balls. I have no idea what they are and why they would be in there. Any Ideas?

yeah..an attemp to up the octane in the fuel..my mind is not what it used to be but the English market these to fit inline in the fuel system..claim better performance and no need to upgrade to hardened seats in their engines..remember we went unleaded many years ahead of them, plus our old cars are already equipped with hardened seats..but the octane rating is still a claimed improvement..

I sent Lou Earle a link to the English devices and he may still have that and post it here, else I will see if I still have the link on my home computer for anyone interested in this...

Years of leaded gas use where pacipitated lead has become magnetized via electrostatic loss due to friction. They then accumulate into the balls you found.

magnetic lead....what other things have we lost over the years?

Simple: It's a male truck. Your a Texan, you should have known that!:D

The lead threw me off. In Texas they are usually brass..

I found a hunk of wood, a carriage bolt and some rocks in my tank. All of which were worn down smooth, so they were probably sloshing around in that tank for decades. Damn kids!.....well I guess they would be old farts now:D
