DCurrent Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Hello fellas, I thought I'd introduce myself only with the car this time. I think I touched base that I'm 37 with a wife and two kids, ages Eva 2 1/2 and Reece 7. So we are both excited and can't wait to put the top down. Ohio has a ways to go before that happens. I hope the pictures go through ok. Anyway, I have been questioning and emailing back and forth with some of you for a while now. Actually I have made myself right at home. I just picked up my car last weekend and took it for a short drive today! It's only the second time I got to go somewhere in it. Wow what an experiance! It is really a joy just to loaf around in the country all over the road in it. It's kind of different! I've never driven a convertible before although the top was not down today so it didn't make a difference. The weird part of it all is the car feels soooo wide, but I can touch both inside door panels without a stretch. The barakes are suprisingly not to bad. I haven't had time to inspect too much on the car as far as mechanicals go. I think it needs a tune up, but I'm not sure just yet. I thought I detected a miss once in a while, but then it smoothed out. Kinda hard to hear with the wind today. All in all it wasn't a bad second impression. I am surprised at how slow the car can take off in second gear! Heck.. I can basically come to a crawl at a stop sign and take off again. It's nice in the way, however it of course means high revs at 55mph. The car is basically sound, but I have many jobs that are on the to do list! Oil change is one of them. I'm glad the topic of oil filters has come up. Learned quite a bit from that topic. The car looks great in pictures, but has a few issues that need adressed. All to come in time. I'm looking forward to spending much time here exchanging ideas! Darren Quote
1940plymouth Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Glad that you were able to put some miles on it, good for you, Great looking car, good luck and may you have many more pleasureable miles of Old MOPAR driving Quote
T120 Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 ...A very nice looking convertible.I hope your experiences with the car will provide some enjoyable memories for both you and your family. Quote
52b3b Joe Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Cool looking car!!!! You have to admit though, its been a mild Ohio winter this year!!! I live near Toledo, its been nice with not much snow. It looks like you got a super solid car that is road ready. Welcome! Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Looks real good Darren. I'm always surprised when new converts appear.....I've seen quite a few of them (at least in pictures), over the years......then yet another shows up. What's the back story on this one? Was it local.....or come from a distance.....etc. Still 6V, original engine?? Quote
Young Ed Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Nice convert. BTW when you get them right in stock form they'll pull away like that in third. Mine still will most of the time but if you get really slow it won't since I changed to the 3.73 rearend. Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Darren; I took the liberty of putting your top down to get a better look at your car. She is a beauty. I see that your clutch and brake pedal pads are mounted sideways. The vert owned by Bob T also has the pads sideways. Now I wonder if this is a convertable thing? Quote
Andydodge Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Darren, gidday from sunny Sth Grafton NSW Australia.........nice car you have there, welcome to the best mopar website around, these guys are the best when it comes to overall mopar knowledge.........trust you have many more mopar miles.......regards, Andyd Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 the pedals can be mounted either way as they have locator locks for either position..over the years I have seen them mounted in various models both methods..the vertical position is predominant for certain..anyone changing to an automatic without upgrading to swing pedals can remove the clutch and mount the pedal sideways to give a large L-R appearance Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 I think I changed mine to up and down, after someone once pointed out the error of my ways........... But, they will work OK in either configuration. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 I see the previous owner was really covering this car's a**. It has both the third upright guard, plus that hard to find tubular trunk guard. Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Darren; As you are already upgraded to 12 volts you might want to consider adding the Technostolgia LED tail lights. Click on the first picture to see them in action. Quote
Mark D Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Beautiful car Darren! Hope to see it in person some day. Ever get to Columbus? I'm out there about 6 times a year and hope to overlap a trip out during the next goodguys show this year. (July 6-8) The guys that work for me out there tell me its always a great show. Quote

What's the back story on this one? Was it local.....or come from a distance.....etc. Still 6V, original engine?? I bought it from the other side of Ohio over by Cleveland. Sad to say there isn't much history with it. The fellow I bought it from bought several cars in one collection and decided he didn't want this one for one reason or another. He didn't know much about it. I did get some paper work that I haven't sat down to study, but I noticed that there were recipets from far western states. It is a very solid car and I haven't detected any panels that have been replaced other than a small section under the rear seat, probably common in convertibles. Judging by the panels it definitaly isn't from around here. It's all original drivetrain with a 12v alternator and front disc brakes. The front drums and generator came with the car in boxes so I have the option to switch back if I like. The brakes stop real good! I can't imagine switching back, but it also has the small original master cylinder. I might have to do somthing with that in the near future. The shocks have had some sort of relocation kit added. Looks like a professional job or somebody that knew what they were doing! It drives fairly straight down the road. I think we will have lots of fun with it. The wife and I are oddballs!! We like just about anything old unlike most of our generation. Its hard to relate to them sometimes. Darren Quote

I'm in the automotive repair industry. We need more bad weather!! It's great on the heat bill though. Darren Quote

I never make it to good guys because they always fall the same weekend that portland Indiana holds the largest scooter meet in the US. We are thinking of attending more car shows this year though. Just not sure which ones. Darren Quote

It's great on the heat bill though.Darren Bad for business for me too, my winter job while I'm in school is plowing snow. I've only plowed for 14hrs this year....last year I probably averaged 20 a week!! Luckily I have a part time job to help a little. I'm also a bit young, I'm 21 yrs old. My friends think I'm crazy restoring a truck from the 50's and leaving it stock. My friends are restoring stuff from the 90's and they think that's pretty old! But then again, they thought I was crazing restoring the other two cars I've done until they got to ride and drive them and concluded they were cool. Quote

Winters not over yet and can turn overnite, hopefully it will. Your buddys have socked money into cars that won't hold value, yours will only gain in value. Just keep restoring old stuff and some day you will get the last laugh. Darren Quote
