Thanks to all for the warm welcome. I am from Edwardsville, Il and live two blocks off Historic Route 66. Great place to live for cruising. Actually my brother came across this truck several years ago in Utah. She was found in a barn in the present condition. He brought her home and stored her in his shed for about 5 years. From the time she showed up, I began the long winded process of trying to take her off of his hands. He always had big plans for her. After much persuasion and some much needed help from his wife,:D I finally convinced him that my garage was the best place for her. He finally agreed and the deal was done. She appears to be all original except for the highway mirrors. After 5 years of storage and a new battery she fired right up and runs like a top. 33,000 original miles. Needed all new tires and brakes, have just finished that job. Interior is in very good condition, but will get a once from a very talented friend of mine. Will post some before and after pics of the interior. I hope to take her along 66 this next weekend for a full blown shakedown cruise. Wish me luck.

Took her on the first real road trip today. Ended up being about 50 miles. Runs really well up to about 40 mph. After that she gets a little squirrelly. Managed 50 mph on an open stretch for a very short time. Couple of things to note

.

#1--Noticed a problem with the idle before I left today. Will only idle smoothly with the choke partially open. The fuel mixture screw on the carb has absolutely no effect on the idle. Any idea where to start?

#2--Also the throttle doesn't seem to want to return to a proper level. Tried a new throttle return spring but did not make any difference. It requires me to put my foot under the pedal and physically pull it up.

Any help on these issues would be greatly appreciated. thx

Also have been lead to believe that this center mirror support is a very rare part. Truth in that?

I'd be considering a carb rebuild to start with and you hae something binding somewhere. Disconnect the carb and check the linkage for bindingand check the carb for smooth movement also.

Nice truck, and yes, the mirror is hard to come by but it seems a lot of the newcomers are finding trucks with them on. By chance, does it have a factory radio?

Yah...as a nube, you can't start with a truck that nice...you'll never learn a darn thing. As a senior member, you need to drop that sucker off here at my place. I will supply you with a perfect learning vehicle that will give you lots of trouble..I mean...education on restoration.

Feel free to visit your truck as often as needed...lol.

Here's your new truck dude....rock on my friend...:D

Does not have a factory radio but does have an antennae. as for the carb, it has a holley and have ordered two rebuild kits so far and neither has been the right one. Any one have a carter that will fit this truck or know where I can find one. Being just outside St. Louis makes me wish i had one. They where manufactured only a few miles from my home. I seem to be getting alot of comments about starting out with such a nice truck. Just a very lucky find, I guess. I feel somehow compelled to apologize. LOL!
