tankwilson Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 A friend of mine just bought a 52 chrysler and may be in need of some parts. I have a 49 plymouth parts car and was wondering what would interchange. Thanks matt Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 Fuel tank and sender if the chrysler is a six cylinder. Door latches. Water pump. Oil pan drain plug.... Quote
desoto1939 Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 I would suggest that anyone that is in the hobby should have a copy of a Hollander Interchange book. They have several editions. Get the one that covers the years you need. The book was used by the junk yards and also parts supplies. It covers engine, wp, fuel pumps rears, trans glass and body parts. Well forth the cost. Also this helps when you are at a swap meet and someone tells you that the ply part will fit a chrysler such as the dizzy assembly but cetain dizzy because of the length of the shaft will not work. So you will not get stuck with a part that you thought would fit and you put it inthe truck and then when you need it for an on the road repair you are still stuck. JerseyHarold Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 The Chrysler has a larger body and engine than the Plymouth so most parts won't interchange. Some small stuff will, as noted in an earlier post. I use the Rock Auto website as a poor-man's Hollander. Their part listings contain interchange info, so I look up a part for my car, then see what else it fits. Quote
TodFitch Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 Oil. The Schrader valves on the tires/tubes too. Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 Fuel tank and sender if the chrysler is a six cylinder. Door latches. Water pump. Oil pan drain plug.... Oil. Both exhaust brackets! With my experiance I may as well join in with these stupid answers. Six of the spark plugs are interchangable along with the gaskets. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 Yea Don , you don't need to be perfect on this one! Be STUPID!!!!:D Quote
John Reddie Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 Matt, The Hollander is a great book to have. Although the bodies are different, parts like door hardware, trunk latches and such may interchange along with other pieces. Best of luck to you. John R Quote
captden29 Posted December 23, 2011 Report Posted December 23, 2011 tank, these are 2 very different cars.50,51 and 52 are similiar style cars. your 49 steering wheel may fit the 52 but the horn ring and button may not interchange.i have a 54 chrysler and i doubt many parts from the 49 will fit it. i have 12" brake drums, the 52 may be the same but the 49 probably is not. i wish you luck with the car as it is a nice one. if you have the pot metal grille you will never find a used one in good condition.same for any other pot metal on the car. korean war years. the 6 cyl is a good engine, the hemi is just nicer. this thread has been hijacked with comedy, but it is funny if you are in the know about these cars.the bottom line is most parts do not interchange between the 49 and 52. a few bored forum members just said it a little differently. i admit i was laughing. capt den Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 23, 2011 Report Posted December 23, 2011 I would venture to guess the Dodge/DeSoto/Chrysler steering wheel hub is a bit larger...at least last this came up I did some measuring and this was what I found to be true..unfortunately there is little he will be able to use if any...with the 49 as popular as it is...I am surprised that you still have left overs since completing your project.. Dodgeb4ya Posted December 23, 2011 Report Posted December 23, 2011 capt den, You are 100% right on the money! I own or have owned quite a few of these 1946-52 Chryslers products- I am real heavy into Chryslers 1946-52. Have worked on hundreds of them over the years. 1949 models are kinda the one year series oddball car. Not many parts will interchange on this subject of 1949 plym to 1952 chrysler, sad to say.
