Rodney Bullock Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 I had a scratch on the Trans Am and thought I would take it in for a repaint. The guy took my car and now you would not reconize it. It's all apart and they are saying it ha major damage to the front. They are seraching for a complete front. I can't believe it. It's like the old 3 stoges routine about super service. I'm going today to look at it. I don't think it will ever be the same. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 Sounds like you may want to take your lawyer with you when you go back. Quote
greg g Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 Thought you just had it done a year or so ago. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted November 26, 2011 Author Report Posted November 26, 2011 yes I did however my street was paved and dug up then some one backed into it. So it needed a touch up. I tend not to get envolved with lawyers one of my best friends is a retired lawyer. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted November 26, 2011 Author Report Posted November 26, 2011 Ok so here is the car, this is graphic so if there are small childen in the room escort them out. Oh yes, if your wives look over your shoulder please cover their eye as they might turn to salt:mad: I am sick and I might go into a fit. I have to lye down:( Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 Did you give them a free hand to do as they please, or did you give them specific instructions? That must have been one big scratch. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted November 26, 2011 Author Report Posted November 26, 2011 Don, I don't remember what I said however the scratch was not real big but it was deep:) Quote
dezeldoc Posted November 27, 2011 Report Posted November 27, 2011 Depending on the damage it should have been able to have been fixed on the car. i doubt that it needs a complete bumper unless the guy that backed into it was in a tank! had it been hit hard enough to need to be replaced their would be damage to the fenders and hood, them urethane bumpers can take some abuse. take a few pics of the damage on the bumper and post them up, i would like to see how big of a scam they are trying to pull off. Quote
PatS.... Posted November 27, 2011 Report Posted November 27, 2011 I think you should head this off at the pass and tell them to put all the parts in a big box and get your car out of there asap!!! This will not get better it will degenerate faster than a speeding bullet. Don't let them even lay eyes on it again. Good Luck!!! Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted November 27, 2011 Author Report Posted November 27, 2011 PatS that was the first thing I thought about doing. Dezeldoc, They have thrown the bumper away. The hit did misalign the hood. It made the car look like it was loopsided. I thnk I will let this play out a little. That Pontiac and I have been together for a lot of years. I told them that and I think they understand that if my car is not put back together like new there will be a price to pay. When I think back on all the stuff that car and I have been though I have no doubt that they will fix my car. That car has turned over, been to gang fights, someone tried to highjack it, The motor blew but got me to my front door, all the dates in it. That car and I are relatives:) 1978 was a very good year for me. Let's remember the good times right:o Quote
oldodge41 Posted November 27, 2011 Report Posted November 27, 2011 You are a patient man Rodney. Threw it away? What the? Oh well, it is the finished product that counts. Reminds me of Monty Python: "Tis' but a scratch." "A scratch? Your bumper's off!" Quote
Big_John Posted November 27, 2011 Report Posted November 27, 2011 Something is screwy if they "threw out the bumper". Either they don't know how to fix the Endura bumper or someone else now has your bumper. Either way, something smells fishy. Quote
3dodgedoobie Posted November 27, 2011 Report Posted November 27, 2011 I would have asked for the old one. If anything like bodyshops here the bumpers and misc parts they take off wrecks they throw in back of shoptruck and haul away for scrap when it gets full. Like above cab full. They might be trying to fix yours at a new price. And if they gave you a qoute before hand stick to it. I have seen some pretty bad nose pieces and they was fixed. If a deep scratch should been fixable. Only time I seen them beyond repair is when they missing pieces. Good luck on not getting screwed. Quote
Chester Brzostowski Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 "The hit did misalign the hood. It made the car look like it was loopsided. .... Rodney, It sounds to me that they are repairing the car as you requested. The description doesn't sound like a simple scratch. Chet... Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 You are more patient than I, and I've been accused of having the patience of Jobe (sp). For one, that shop is filthy, I'm not the neatest guy in the world, but that place takes the cake. And its a cardinal rule of the auto repair industry (reputable types, anyway) to keep the old parts for the customer..... Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted November 28, 2011 Author Report Posted November 28, 2011 I went back to see if they did not have the bumper. They do have it but it's in the dumpster. The insurance company must see the old parts for the suppliment. I got a vote of confidence today as they called a friend of mine that is a Pontiac vendor and he is sending a like new front cover to them. Thank goodness for small miracles they happen everyday:) Quote
Niel Hoback Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 Around here, it's the law that repair shops must save old replaced parts for the customer. If the customer says he doesn't want them, then, and only them may they toss the old parts. I don't know if thats a federal law or not, but it's a state law here in Indianny. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted December 3, 2011 Author Report Posted December 3, 2011 I went by to see my car today and they are still taking parts off the car. Today that had the rear wheel spoiler off:eek: I put that stuff on when I was 20 years old to hide the fact that the wheels I like where to wide for the car. They said it was needed to fix the spot. I got a look at my new bumper and it's ok they need to do alot of sanding on it to make it "like new" I will wait and see how things develop. Quote
Greenbomb Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 Did you ever see the movie "The Money Pit", about a couple having a big, old house restored? There was crap and stuff spread EVERYWHERE and the "prep work/teardown" before actually gaining ground was really stressful. And the crew doing the work seemed real shady. Anyway, after it was all done is was back to its original glory and the shady crew had come through and were heroes. Hopefully it will end up the same way with your car. Hang in there!! Quote
RobertKB Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 Rodney, didn't you have that car painted just a couple of years ago? Wouldn't the wheel well work have been done then if the work was done right? I can see replacing the nose if it was damaged but why are they doing other work on your car if you did not request it? Or maybe you did. Not sure if you are being taken advantage of or what?? Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted December 4, 2011 Author Report Posted December 4, 2011 The money PIT:eek: I will hang in there that's my creed. RobertK Your right I did just have the car painted. For some reason it bubbled right on top of the quater. I don't know what happened. I asked them to just paint it however they took that fin off. You know I am on medication and sometimes I don't remember what I said, I do know I asked them to fix it. They just go to great extremes. My poor car:o "One day we'll be together" Like the old song says right. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted December 6, 2011 Author Report Posted December 6, 2011 Went to see the car today and things are looking different. I think the worst is over.I think fter the dust settles a new day will appear;) Oh boy it looks great! Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted December 13, 2011 Author Report Posted December 13, 2011 I went by to see my car and it was almost finished. Just a little clean up and it's back home. WoW I guess all that belly aching was for not. They did a good job. I was ready to fuss:cool: Quote
dezeldoc Posted December 13, 2011 Report Posted December 13, 2011 Rodney, not to pick it apart but the alignment on the bumper to fender looks to be off, also the color appears to be a little darker maybe the light? other than that it looks good. Quote
greg g Posted December 13, 2011 Report Posted December 13, 2011 Now all you need is one of those Burt Renolds signature commevative Member"s Only jacket and a CB antenna. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY makes Sheriff Buford T. Justice look like a possum's pecker. Cept maybe that Rodney guy Daddy. Quote
