Young Ed Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 Anyone sourced a new one of these? I found a few at ford and chevy places but they were some what spendy at 60 and up and I don't know if they'll fit. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 while not knowing if it may work I would be cautious of buying it also but 60.00 in not spendy..the blower motors in todays cars run you that and that will be for a generic brand..nobody gets out alive..! Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 Ed is this for the defroster or heater? What year? Quote
Young Ed Posted October 7, 2011 Author Report Posted October 7, 2011 Its for my 48 they do both heat and defrost. Quote
greg g Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 Don't know about you but I seldom use anything but low speed on heaters. If that is the case with you, the 12 V motor. will run at what would be low speed as provided by a resister switch. they usually put out 6/9/12 v to a 12v heater blower. So in all but the most unhospitable weather conditios a universal 12 v motor might be adequate for an occasional use vehicle. Quote
Young Ed Posted October 7, 2011 Author Report Posted October 7, 2011 It must not get as cold in NY. In the plymouth on our early spring late fall tours I've had it on high many times. Now some of that could be that the fans turn really slowly which is why I'm on the hunt for a new one. Quote
Adam H P15 D30 Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 I wish I wasn't half was across the country I would give you the one out of my Dodge assuming it would fit. Looks brand new and works perfectly. I didn't want to kill it on 12v so I replaced it. Quote
greg g Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 USPS bulk mailer if it fits it ships 10 bucks or so. Quote
Don Coatney Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 Ed; Does your current motor not run at all or is it squealing? I have found in the past that these motors will start squealing due to lack of lubrication. I have secussfully drilled a small hole on the center of the end cap on these heater motors and put a few drops of oil in the hole. The squealling stopped and the motors ran for a few more years. Adam H P15 D30 Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 USPS bulk mailer if it fits it ships 10 bucks or so. Ed, Let me know. It is out of a 49 Wayfarer....... Not sure on fitment but I will send it to you for shipping price only. Quote

Its incredibly slow but quiet. I think we already did the hole drilling and oiling to get it to turn this much. Quote

Should I mail you the extra one I took apart and never managed to get back together? I could never get the brushes to stay put while I put the rest back together. Quote
Adam H P15 D30 Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 Got a picture or a general discription? I believe mine mounts to a ring with 2 screws/studs. Ed, I will post basic dimensions tonight when I get home. Mine was also mounted to a plate with 2 studs. I used the plate and cage on my other motor. You will have to use yours. Post back in a few hours. Quote

Young Ed Posted October 8, 2011 Author Report Posted October 8, 2011 The sad part about the one I took apart is it was fully functional it was just for the wrong side of the car. I took it apart to reverse it so it would turn the other way. Quote

Young Ed Posted October 8, 2011 Author Report Posted October 8, 2011 No matter which way you hook up the wires it turns the same way. Sadly I couldn't find the technical explanation about why that I was given once before. Could be back on the old forum. Anyway I think it was something about these aren't fixed magnet motors? Quote
Adam H P15 D30 Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 Ok Ed, if you end up wanting it, here are the deminsions. The body itself is 3" x 2.75" in diameter. Shaft length is 1.75" from the body and 3/16" in diameter. Her are some picts. I will be away for 3 days so I won't see your answer till then. Unless I sneak onto the wifey's laptop. Quote
greg g Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 If you need it to blow the other way why not just reverse the fan??? Quote
Niel Hoback Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 Reversing a fan blade will not reverse the air flow. Quote
Adam H P15 D30 Posted October 9, 2011 Report Posted October 9, 2011 Mine spun the same way with either polarity. Quote
Wayfarer51 Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 USPS bulk mailer if it fits it ships 10 bucks or so. Greg, not sure how this thread turned out. I'm in need of a 6v blower motor for my 51 Wayfarer. I'm in Monroe, NY so not far from you. Had mine re-brushed but the commutator is too far gone and it's died again. If you still have it available, let me know what price you're asking. Long cold spell coming up so I need heat if I want to use this car. Thanks, George Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 As I recall Model #53 passenger side and #54 drivers side heater motors rotate in opposite directions. Same squirrel cage though, forr right or left motor. Bob Quote
