Don Coatney Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 I suggest everyone lobby the POC and AACA and other groups for approval of this product as a safety upgrade that will not deduct points from a judged meet. Anyone with a "restored" to original car will not have an interest in these very nicely done upgraded rear lights as long as the clubs deduct points. I have had the Technostoliga 12 volt rear lights on my car for several years. Todd is a great guy to work with and his product quality is great. Quote
Jerry Roberts Posted October 10, 2011 Report Posted October 10, 2011 Today I ordered some LED stop/tail light bulbs , 6 volt from superbrightleds.com . Good price at $8 each and cheap shipping . They are in the USA . Quote

They are in the USA . Thanks for the post Jerry. What bulbs did you order. I've been wandering around the site have not yet found 6V replacements for what I seem to have: 1158 - Directional 1154 - Turn/Tail 1129/GE63 - Stop Cheers! John Quote
Jerry Roberts Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 (edited) John , I ordered replacements for my 6 volt number 1154 bulbs . The 6volt 1154 bulbs have the same base as 12 volt 1157 bulbs . So their LED listing shows them as replacements for 1157 bulbs . When you choose the LED replacements on their site , you punch in 6 volt . you will also be punching in RED if you have red lenses . The next option that you will enter is restricted to only one choice because of your previous choices . Here is the info ; 2 | 1157-x19-xV: 19-LED 1157 Bulb | $ 7.95 | 1157-R19-6V: Red 15 Degree 6VDC Edited October 11, 2011 by Jerry Roberts Quote

I'll have to look for a 6V Stop replacement too! Er, say . . . how do these work out with a 6V Positive Ground??? Cheers! John Quote
Jerry Roberts Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 (edited) John , You might have discovered a problem there . I didn't find anything on their site about polarity , perhaps I missed it though . My own bulbs are negative ground . I sent the company an email so will see how they respond . UPDATE ; I have a reply from superbrightled ; " our 6 volt LED s will all work with a negative ground " But he doesn't say that they won't work with a positive ground . I should have sent him my question in a different format . Edited October 11, 2011 by Jerry Roberts Quote

As they are wired with the ground as a seperate wire I would think they could be modified for positive ground. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LED_circuit Edited October 11, 2011 by Alshere59 Quote
JohnTeee Posted October 12, 2011 Report Posted October 12, 2011 Called SuperBrightLED (turns out they are in St. Louis, just north of me, and talked to Bill. He seemed to think that these bulbs would work just fine. I'm going to order: 1156-R19-6V for the stop light 1157-R19-6V for the turn/tail lights I'll let you know how it goes! Cheers! John Quote
Alshere59 Posted October 12, 2011 Report Posted October 12, 2011 John looking at a few more sites it looks like they are good. Glad you kept at it. Now to order a pair for me. Quote

And, there you have it. I knew LEDs are VERY particular about polarity. Had purchased a piece of circuit board, cut it to fit the brake light opening, and attached several red LEDs in series/parallel. Put power to it and burned out my LEDs. Something else I've never done, any electrical engineering! Cheers! John Quote

John I just got off the phone with Superbrights. They told me you have to replace the flasher as well to an "electronic" flasher. Anyone have a reference for one of these? Superbrights does not sell them. Quote

Drdialtone Posted October 12, 2011 Report Posted October 12, 2011 So John, do you think the "white" LEDs will work for the front turn indicators? Quote
Jerry Roberts Posted October 12, 2011 Report Posted October 12, 2011 From what I have read elsewhere , your ordinary flasher will work if you are using regular incandescent bulbs in your system someplace , like your front turn signals . I also have read that you can just put an incandescent bulb anywhere in the circuit to draw enough current to make your old flasher work . Quote
Alshere59 Posted October 12, 2011 Report Posted October 12, 2011 So John, do you think the "white" LEDs will work for the front turn indicators? Why not go with amber? Not the stock color for our year though. Quote

You could probably also just put an appropriately sized resistor in the circuit. Then you wouldn't have to be annoyed by a light flashing under the dash or in the trunk. Quote
busycoupe Posted October 12, 2011 Report Posted October 12, 2011 Thanks for the info about superbtrights. I just ordered bulbs for the tail-stop lights and one for the center brake light. My car has separate directional lights that were added by a previous owner many years ago so the flasher should not be a problem. Dave Quote
