How many stock...How many rods?

I'm new here and I just bought my 46 bizzy last week. (I already know the slang word 'bizzy')

My car has a '57 chevy 283 and powerglide tranny so I'll be making a 'non-custom' street cruiser by keeping the V-8 in it. Maybe not that V8 but I'm keeping a small block in it.

It has a '58 dodge rear end. I will probably upgrade the brakes but no custom body work.

With all of that said. how many of you guys have restored cars and how many have street rods?

Just curious.

Chuck,

If that 283 engine is any good in your coupe, I'd keep it and the powerglide. That's a tough little V8. When I was a kid back in the 50's my uncle had a 56 Chevy with the 283 in it. Put in a Corvette parts and a small race cam. Engine looked and sounded completely stock when you heard it running and looking at it. Took it to the drag strip and was classified in A Stock. He took 1st place trophies about 4 weeks in a row before someone finally challenged him on the engine being stock. Of course at that time he had a choice, either open the engine for inspection, or have the car barred from racing. He chose not to open the engine up. That car was fast though. So, I'd keep that 283 if it's good.

My coupe is just a mild custom, but some have built up their flat head sixes on the board, and some are running other V8's in their cars. If you want to see mine, just click on the link next to my name in the signature of this post.

Mine '50 is somewhere in between, looks stock on the outside, 50's period hop-up speedy stuff under the hood. '55 Dodge overdrive on stock rear end. Cruises 75 mph all day, and is my daily driver when there is no snow... More at http://www.50plymouth.com if you need to kill some time:D.

My '48 special deluxe coupe looks stock outside but is filled with modern miracles -disc brakes, a '77 Cordoba rearend , a '73 Duster 318, a Tremac five speed from a '84 Camaro and more . Not stock but not a hot rod either ---call it a NICE driver!

That's a good way to call it.

A nice driver.

The headliner looks great and it has beat up bbuckets in it now but I think I'm going back to a nice bench seat so my wifey can ride next to me.

I'm gonna try to keep the same dash but clean it up and paint it.

I've had a '53 Cambridge and a '53 Pontiac that were restored.

I just gave my 24 year old son my 1969 Ford LTD 2 door hardtop that has 42,000 actual miles on it. 429 motor, 385 horse. I had it over 15 years and he has helped me on it since he was a kid. So now, i need something to go riding in.

Thanks

Totally stock inside and out, long in the tooth, modified engine, dual exhaust and carbs, bored, head milled, cam reground. Working on modifing a bellhousing to accept a T-5 transmission and am almost ready to install 77 Chrysler Cordoba upper arms, spindles and disc brakes to my frame using home made brackets to secure the uppers to the origional location and home made adapter to install lower ball joint into stock lower a frame. Stock shocks will mount to lower a frame adapter and frame. Might call this an old mans hotrod.

You car is very cool. Mine is the same color right now.

My 48 dodge business coupe is basically stock, I have a 1950 230 D34 motor with the original 3 speed with the fluid drive. Stock carburetor and exhaust. I changed the drive line and U joints to a modern type with the original rear end and the brakes are all original drum brakes. I have redone my interior and completely rewired using a replica wire harness from Y&Z and I still run 6 volt positive ground.

Mostly stock 41 P11D. Converted to 12v neg. Electric fuel pump. Rear ratio changed to a 3.55. Radial tires on 15" rims. Non-stock colors in a non-standard pattern.:)

Now, my truck, on the other hand.... 52 B3FA 1 1/2 ton, original 236 flathead replaced with a poly 318 and 4 speed into a two-speed rear axle. Also 12V neg with an electric fuel pump. Got a sleeper box from a Peterbilt tractor and a homemade flatbed behind that.:D

I try to keep my '35 as stock as possible but it's a real mongrel under the hood. When it came time to rebuild the engine, i searched for a '35 block and head but the only ones I could find were way over priced so I used a '57 block (unfortunately, I found that George Ashe had a '35 engine at a reasonable price but that was after I rebuilt the '57).

So I shoot for original, but I won't pay through the nose for it.

Basically stock, has a '57 model flathead 6, six volts, '55 Chrysler wire wheels, period knick knacks on it like bug deflector and headlight visors. Not very fast, but fun to drive.

'47 Ply Special deluxe. Original flathead 6 with 6v system. Only upgrades are radial tires, 8v battery, and aftermarket heat gauge.

Vehicle is mostly stock, but still looking to make a few modifications. Want to add seat belts and a few other items. Paint is '64-'66 chevy truck blue.

Grandpa restored this vehicle and owned it for 32 years before handing her over to me. Paint job is 27 years old. I drive this vehicle a lot and really enjoy it. Can't see ever modifying it much as I like it the way it is.

I'm driving a mechanically maintained, aesthetically challenged 90% stocker. Completely worn out upholstery, restored brakes, custom homebuilt functioning 6v wiring, '51 230 with 2 carbs, fuel cell to replace perforated gas tank, lowered rear, whitewalls and Jeep beauty rings, rolled on latex paint (original black color, of course), and no ownership history to be found except for the name "Tommy".

It needs some loving, but it runs for now. :(

My '49 Chrysler will, some century when it's finished, be mostly stock. 251, fluid drive, no body changes. It will have Charlies disc brakes on the front, and a 12 volt system.

Both my car and truck are pretty stock. Truck does have a p23 engine but its still a 218 with 1 carb. Both are still 6v and I do have radials on both of them. I do plan on having a flathead with some accesories(2x1 and 5spd) but that hasn't gotten built yet.

Man, this has beem great learning. Al of them are the model (almost) but it seems like most of them have added the owners own touches.

I can't wait to start working on mine. We have to wait a couple of weeks because I had back surgery 2 weeks ago.

The only things I see we'll need are rocker panels on both sides. The floor is solid and no rust anywhere else.

I figure we'll do brakes and drive train this year and paint and interior next.

I'll post some pics soon and maybe a page dedicated to it on my website.

Thanks

Chuck

Mine will be modified.... shaved, decked, nosed, with modern ammenities (stereo, etc) 12V, but keeping the flathead with dual intake and exhaust.... will probably upgrade sometime to disks and maybe eventually a 318 with a new rear end..... but I want to get it on the road first.... and go from there.
