John-T-53 Posted July 17, 2011 Report Posted July 17, 2011 Anybody ever have to replace theirs? Mine's completely rusted beyond repair, to the point where there's holes in the cab roof. My local body guy suggested I remove the drip rail completely and find a replacement. And of course, it would be best to find one that's as identical as possible to the original. So my question is...do you guys have any ideas on sources? Thanks, Quote
50farmtruck Posted July 18, 2011 Report Posted July 18, 2011 Well, I'd say something like that shouldn't be to complicated if you wanted to build one. No compound curves & stuff like body panels. Quote
Young Ed Posted July 18, 2011 Report Posted July 18, 2011 If you're looking for one identical you'd need to find someone scrapping a pilot house cab that can salvage you a good one. Quote
Dave72dt Posted July 18, 2011 Report Posted July 18, 2011 Well, I'd say something like that shouldn't be to complicated if you wanted to build one. No compound curves & stuff like body panels. The vertical edge has a bit of roll to it and maintaining that without it collapsing in the corners is tough. Straight sections wouldn't be too bad with a bead roller and brake. Quote
70rtse440 Posted July 18, 2011 Report Posted July 18, 2011 Mine are completely gone, So i will be attempting to build my own. Will keep you posted. Quote
John-T-53 Posted July 24, 2011 Author Report Posted July 24, 2011 Thanks all. I've searched various repro mfr's for something that could be adapted but no luck. Closest thing was for a late '30's Ford car but they wanted $130 for a pair, and it's hard to tell from small images on websites what they actually look like in section. Not worth it. I agree this would have to be custom fabbed, just need the technology to do it...More like I need to find somebdy who has the tools to make them for me. Quote

John-T-53 Posted July 26, 2011 Author Report Posted July 26, 2011 Thanks Rich. I've contacted the seller to see if these would be similar or identical in cross section to the B-series rails. I'd be good If I could use at least parts of them to repair mine. This is a stroke of good luck! Quote
dontknowitall Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 In the past I have used aluminimum drip rails used in caravans....either glue them with sikaflex or use poprivets. Quote

48Dodger Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 Had some fun making a few measurements. Drip rail length: 1947 cab drip rail: 46.5 inches 1950 cab drip rail: 46.5 inches Door width (affects roof bends): 1947 door width 34 inches 1950 door width 35 inches Notes: 47 cab drip rail is spot welded in place. 50 cab drip rail is folded to form rail. 48D Quote
70rtse440 Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 Just finished the drivers side drip rail. Used a 1"X48" , bent at a 90, 22gauge metal, welded back on the truck. I Used Eastwood's Lead Free solder to flow in the seam and repair the rust damage at the top of the door/roof line. Quote
