why is it that folks just cannot ever seem to let things be...Tudor..I first heard the name as it ws the last name for a family that lived in my community...then you have the ruling house of Tudor...and other such..Ford coined the moniker for a two door sedan..now everyone out there in la la land who has an old two door cars thinks he has a Tudor..even th uppity chebbie folks are using the term..egads..what next and then the reference to the RAT engine and the mouse being the small block..RAT has nothing to do with size...90% or better have no clue what it stands for...

I'm done..maybe I should have been like Captain Neon and

"resisted the urge"....couldn't do it...honestly I tried...

Language is always evolving. Sometimes much faster than I'd like...

SAE and, as far as I can tell, Chevrolet called the model a "coach". Chrysler used "two door sedan". And, of course Ford coined "Tudor" to go with their also coined "Fordor".

One phrase I've heard in recent years that really bothers me is "old skool". Seems to be used to describe things that never were. I shudder when I hear anything described as that.

OK, Tim, I am in the 90% you mentioned. I always assumed it was a rat motor because it was the big block and the small block was the mouse. The mouse supposedly was called that because the Chrysler Hemis were called Elephants and all an elephant was scared of was a mouse. Maybe that is wrong, too. Anyway, what does RAT stand for? Time to inform the ignorant masses!:P

Gents,

I guess it bugs us all just a bit; we live long enough to think we understand how to say what we're trying to say and somebody else decides we'd be better off saying it differently. When did homophobia stop being the fear of being alone?

old skool don't bother me for anyone who does not know how to spell it proper really does not get any serious consideration from me..

I love it on a certain forum the move is to obliterate the use of the term "rat rod" and banned if used..or at minimum the post removed by the moderators..when if fact many of the vehicles over there are in this catagory..you can't polish a turd as they say but I guess it okay to handle it if went by another name..

the division of GM where this engine got its name is form the actual department

Research And Technologies..and as far as the Elephant and the mouse...get real..only thing a hemi owner would be afraid of in regard to a mouse engine is if one should happen to get sucked through the air intake of the mighty hemi...mousers kinda got the ego of the floating ant approaching a drawbridge..

Don't apaolgize for saying what you think. I enjoy reading opinions and you all feel better for having spoke your minds. Rave on, this is AMERICA.

At the risk of breaking the rules, are you sure the 1st Amendment means what it used to nowadays? Seems every one is offended by what some one says and is demanding some thing because of it: money, apologies, public humiliation, incarceration, etc. We now have absurd "hate crimes" laws where people are punished for holding unpopular opinions or disagree with some one of a protected class. George Orwell call your office...

I agrre with Tim people should know what they mean before using sonme word they heard somewhere else. I irritates me when you go to any store and the cashier says Have A Good One. What do they mean , a good hour, minute second. What became of saying Have a Nice Day. My opinion is the younger kids are to lazy to speak moire than 3 or 4 words but can say plenty by shortening up everything. Sorrry if this bothers anyone but I felt that I can rant here for a short time.

Oh you mean like the Kobe Bryant's outburst....in myfather's day the retort might have been "Isn't that like the pot calling the Kettle'.... and so on. Hopefully many of us have advanced some both in maturity and in tolerence, and will not excuse either outburst in public, print or on tape. Think what you want but, and say what you will in private or to a group of like minded individuals, but if you want to incite, you might want to think twice. The rights we are granted and utilize also come with some unspoken responsibilities, that it seems these days more and more are loath to accept.

We may bear arms as we like, but must use them in prescribed ways, chose not to accept those responsibilities and then you should be prepaired to accept the consequences.

But perhaps Kobe was talking about a bundle of sticks.................

I gotta say I've never heard of "Research And Technologies" being the basis for the big block Chevy nickname. I have heard it refered to as "Porcupine" (angle of the valves) and as the Mark IV engine.

That said... You're... Your.... Two...To... Too... etc. gets me just a little.

Major Hoople would know!:P

Does Daddy-O know too?

That was a question from Charlie Brown to the English teacher....

Who walks in the classroom, cool and slow

Who calls the English teacher, Daddy-O

Charlie Brown, Charlie Brown

He's a clown, that Charlie Brown

He's gonna get caught

Just you wait and see

(Why's everybody always pickin' on me)

Don,

Those are the things that squiggle between the little fishes and ring Hell's bells. I got that straight from the horse's mouth.

OK, then what does Hells Bells mean or should I ask Tom Sawyer????

Pat, don't think it a bastardization (which maybe one in and of itself) but fitment has a mechanical and technical, as well as maritime basis

Engineering / Mechanical Engineering) Machinery an accessory attached to an assembly of parts

Marine, items being poperly installed as part of a ship's fitting out process.

It looks like this thread is now winding its way through tough terrain littered with volcanic debris.
