couple pictures of the line up...for the record..Merle and Dave (nobuxrods) of the United States soundly defeated the Canadians represented by Chris and Jerry in horsehoes..it was a shutout...(an sure there may be a slight rebuttal to the account posted later)

Anyway..they off and running...fair winds and blue skies to them..

Tim,

Thanks for sharing, glad everyone had a good time.

Wish I lived closer, it would have been great to meet all you guys

By the way, is that a '40 Plymouth taxi and how did the beans go over?

They sounded darn tastey

Thanks again,

Bob

I believe that is right on the Taxi..owner Billy Austin...its a beautiful car and well appointed as a taxi..this was my first time seeing the car...

The beans went over rather well with just a small amount of each style left over..

We had about six drive bys stop over to look..one lady photographed the cars..went to Walmart and brought each of us a personal 8 x 10 of their car..totally out of the blue and an excellent gesture...

Mums went all out and the food was good (not because I have to say that either) Three gallons of ice tea just seemed to diappear....

My personal thanks to the folks who came as far as they did to fellowship and wish the Canadians good travel as they head home..they plan to make Panama Beach tonight...

The temps got right up there..short after they left my AC came on..I never run the central heat so I leave the AC on 24/7/365 and the thermostat never gets fiddled with..Summer is here I think...

And what a great party it was. Great fellowship, great food, great sunshine, and great that my Plymouth has not given me many problems. Just checked into the hotel in Warner Robbins, Ga. Merle Coggins is also staying here. I just checked my GPS odometer and so far on this trip I have clocked 400 miles even.

I got stuck in a gridlock near Macon Bacon, Georgia on the way to Tims this morning. Parked in this gridlock for over a half hour. It is normal for my car to gain a lot of engine temperature when I have been driving at freeway speed for an extended period of time and suddenly drop the speed to zero. Also normal for my electric fan to kick on and drop that temperature after a few moments. However in this case I went from freeway speed to zero in a plymosecond. Fan kicked on but temperature continued to slowely climb as there was no wind other than that produced by the electric fan. No place to go, no way to pull off to the shoulder as there was traffic all around me, so I sat there and watched my temperature gauge climb to around 230F. I used the throttle cable to drive the idle speed up to around 1200RPM in order to circulate more coolant but this did not help much. Never boiled over. After an eternity got clear of the gridlock and back up to speed. Temperature dropped to 180 in less than a mile and my thermostatically controlled fan dropped off. Engine continues to run great so I dont think any damage was done.

Plans for tomorrow are the return trip home. If I make any detours my trip home will be about another 400 miles.

It definitely was a good time. It's nice to now be able to put faces with names I see on here regularly and to know some other people in the area to get in touch with for help. Here's a few of the pictures I got today. Thanks again to Mr and Mrs Adams for the food. Hope the Canadians have a safe trip.

Looks like a good time was had by all. Glad Chris and Jerry got away safely and it sounds like they maybe producing their own gas for a while. If all goes well and nothing catastrophic happens, I should see them the second last day of their trip when they stopover in Lethbridge. I will provide pictures if all things work out.

Madt it home safely. What a great party! Last evening Mearl and I went out to eat. Planned on going to a semi fancy place but two blocks from the hotel there was a Shake&Stake. As we drove by we noticed a mini cruise in so we ate there.

I awoke early this morning and found a PM from Billy Austin. He alerted me to the fact that it took him several hours longer than normal to return home yesterday due to construction zones through Hotlanta and more traffic than normal due to northerners returning home from Florids spring break sightseeing. So I elected to get a jump on traffic and hopefully avoid any more gridlocks.

So I packed up, loaded up, and hit the road. My car was running great. A few miles down the road I checked my temperature gauge. Nice cool morning around 65 ambient and great driving temperature. However my engine temperature gauge was reading nothing, zero, zilch. First opportunity I pulled over and pictured below is what I found. Guess I plumb wore this aftermarket gauge and flat out busted the capilary probe.

I could have stopped at a parts store, bought another gauge, installed it, but if I did so I would have hit Hotlanta just before noon when things were really heating up. So I continued on depending on my thermostaticaly controlled electric fan to take care of business. And it did so flawlessly. I missed all the Hotlanta traffic by taking the outerloop around town. The only time my fan kicked on was after I made fuel stops. It kicked off shortely after I got back up to speed.

Except for one last time. I was less than two miles from home when I ran into a gridlock. Some idiot ran a red light, got T-boned and flipped his van. I needed to make a left turn but could not. Sat at the light and waited for the cops (who were directing traffic) for about 5 minutes before they allowed me to turn right not left. It did not appear that my car grossely overheated during this wait. I had to get back on the interstate and go two exits back south to take an alternate route home. Made it home safely. Below are my GPS readings for this trip.

Do would setting your fan to come on at a bit lower temp help anticipate things and keep it cooler overall?? I kow you don't want or eed it to run cotinually, but if you dropped the on temp by 10 degrees it should make any difference except around town.

Glad you fellows had a good time.

I have installed a thermostat overide toggle switch to kick the cooling fan on at my descretion. I some times use it and did so before the Macon gridlock. Made no difference. I now wonder if my gauge was not telling the truth.

I did have the fan thermostat set to come on earlier a few years back. What I found was the fan did no good running when I was at a road speed sufficient to allow good air flow across the radiator. In fact it seemed to increase heat coming on too early due to the extra amperage load on the alternator and the engine having to work harder to keep up with the extra load. So I use this overide switch with descretion.

Don, I saw you pulling out of the parking lot just as I was carrying my stuff out to my bike. Good to hear you had a good trip home. I had a pleasant ride back to Asheville. Went east a bit then north through Athens to avoid Atlanta. Got up into the mid to upper 80's in northern GA and into NC, but when I got on the Blue Ridge Parkway and climbed up over 3500 ft. the temp dropped into the low 70's and was a very comfortable ride back into town.

Thursday morning I head north, back to WI. It'll be good to be home.

Merle;

I am glad we finally had a face to face meeting. Glad your return trip to Ashville was good. Have a safe trip back home.

It was a great time at Tim's as usual. A bunch of great people, great food and the weather was just right. Really nice to get together like that once in a while, so thanks very much again Tim. I don't know anyone with as many projects as Tim. You can tell he loves doing that stuff and it shows in his work.

Good luck and travel safely to Chris and Jerry. Richie.

Tim,

Had a great time meeting the gang. I am sure CHris and Jerry enjoyed the sendoff.

Speaking of traffic, I knew I was in trouble when I cought up to Richie and BIlly since they had left 1/2 hlour before me but were stuck in the great I-75 slowdown of 2011. I think it was more than 25 miles long.

I was so inspited looking at Tim's shop and numerous projects that I spent 2+ hours cleaning out my shop today. If you can't find the parts you can't install them....

Thanks, Tim and Sally for hosting.

Just want to say thanks to Tim and Sally for hosting another fun meet . The food was awesome(best beans and wings ever!) however the ride in the Sunbeam Tiger was a bucket list thing. The trip back was a little crazy. Glad I had Tom Tom and Wawona. We drove the east side back streets all the way around . Also glad I had Richie Hodge for a tail gunner.

So glad that everyone survived the food and the driving to and fro..we enjoyed having everyone here. Later that evening after clearing everything and putting it away took mums out in the 54 for a milkshake at Sonics...yeah..I forgot the camera...so I have to report this has been the longest run the car has been on since my ownership these past 4 years..just seem never to have the time to drive it...

AND mums drove it the last leg home herself...being an automatic makes driving the old car less a chore for her..I bet we got no less than 10 thumbs up in that short outing...and at the traffic light at night, one lady just loved the pink glow the blue dots gave the rear brake lights..

One thing for certain..them tires gotta go..they are what came on the car and has more wander than Walt Disney has wonder...
