God,...I hate redoin stuff! After starin at the problem for half the morning I figgered I'd better get fishin 'stead of cuttin bait. Decided I could not gracefully pull the trans from below so the whole front clip is comin off. I'm bein so careful it's takin me forever. And in spite of bein real anal, I've still got trans fluid and antifreeze all over the place. At least it's clean! :D

I'm leavin the torque converter on the trans so's the trans guy has a better shot of pin pointing the problem.

Got this far afore I had to take two steps back. Hate when that happens!

First time I have taken the front clip off in one piece. Novel idea,.... but then ya gotta put it someplace.

I still needed to dismantle it to address several issues and that was a royal pain in the butt. No room to work.

Seemed to take an inordinate amount of time to discover and disconnect all the cables, wires, links and hoses

that I so carefully routed. And of course they all continue to dribble fluids of all kinds on my nice clean chassis.

Finally,......off to the trans doctor.

Bill;

No need to tell you that failure is not an option as you already have that mindset. I had to install and remove my engine/transmission assembly at least twice until I felt comfortable. However the end result makes it all worthwhile. I (like I am sure you do) carry a lot of trophy scars on my forearms and other body parts as reminders of the work I had to do. These scars mean more to me than any off shore hunk of junk trophey that you will ever get at a show. Some day I hope to see your car live and personable. I am proud that I was able to remotely assist you.

Although I got the call from the trans shop, I decided to take the day off. Did a Banzai run, with a bunch of knuckleheads to the Bakersfield NSRA Show.

You woulda thunk it was a Mopar show. Never seen so many 40's & 50's Plymouths and Dodges in one place.

I hate when you buy new stuff that is defective! However when you have a vendor that goes to bat for you,

it takes a little of the sting outta a crummy situation.

Pullin the engine and trans was a pain 'cause of all the wiring, plumbing and linkage that had to be disconnected. And I

swear, no matter how careful I was, there was more trans fluid and antifreeze on the floor than I had even put in the car.

Turns out the torque converter was defective. The indexing spline on the torque converter was tweaked which galled, and welded,

the pump bushing which in turn spun and ruined the pump seal. The trans shop fixed everything at no charge even tho I had bought

the trans from him years ago. I'll definitely go to him again.

The engine/trans are back in the car now but it will be a couple of days before everything is hooked up once again.

I think I saw your car in the Goodguys classified section???? Or one that looks exactly like it.....:)

Yeah, that's it. Between the Parklane and the P-15, I've got waaaay too much money tired up in toys. Although my dear wife never complains, I gotta show some sense of responsibility if I want to continue doing this stuff. Hopefully the wagon will sell first. Then, I'll feel less guilty when fanticizing about all that I'd like to do on the P-10 :D

Finally got the engine/trans reinstalled. God, there's a lot of wires, linkage, cables and plumbing to hook up,.....again. Took a drive around the block to discover a worrysome metallic sounding growl coming for the water pump. I was about to drop a match in the gas tank, after replacing a bum torque converter, anticipating taking the whole schbang apart again.

My good friend and stellar general repair guy, after scoping out the situation, said "spray some water from a squirt bottle on the belt." Walla!!!! No more growl. I woulda bet money it was the water pump by the sound. He said he's seen a lot of water pumps replaced when it was only a belt. I've learned a new trick............ I'm still workin on patience :D

So, by 11:00pm Saturday evening I had the front sheet metal, except for the hood, back on (I kinda like showin off the three carbs anyway). And I led a cruise into the SoCal mountians for a BBQ with a bunch of Hot Rod guys.

I think it is something ya'll will enjoy. The Plymouth is running great and I was looking for an excuse to go on a little road trip. Gathered with half a dozen knuckleheads for breakfast and a drive up the coast.

The Mullin Museum in Oxnard is a must see for any motorhead visiting this area. Of course the drive and view of the cars en route was great however, the exhibit of 30's Euro cars and Art Deco Decadence was over the top.

Good eye. Those are in fact Dodge fenders. I think they are fiberglas.
