The wife and I were both called last night and given a snow day from work..yes I know by northern standards this dusting would not even count...but the south has zero snow removing equipment, salt trucks and any sand that gets put on an overpass or bridge is done by hand and shoveling..and this is actually an accumulation of white sleet..

Well better to be safe than sorry, especially if all the roads and freeways are covered in a thin layer of ice.

Up here we would have the day off from November to April, for snow accumulation.

Could they not use a gravel truck with a belly dump or loaders to drop some sand and salt on bridges and ramps and such?

yeah..if it was in the inventory..remember..this type of event may occur once ever couple years and usually for one day only..so there is no call for this type of equipment..but we do have the best coffee pots at the DMV money can buy..

We got 5 inches yesterday in Plano, Texas so everything is closed around here too. Snowed five times last year and twice we had more than 10 inches. Supposed to be high of 30 today with freezing drizzle then down to 17 for a low tonight. Nightly lows are not supposed to get out of the 20's until Friday night.

Hey Al, where is all this global warming you keep taking about? We could sure use some about now.

So envious! Our sister campus in Columbia, SC got a snow day, but here in Savannah it's a normal Garfield kinda Monday. People here drive me crazy, took 22 minutes to drive 4 miles! Enjoy your day off Tim!

Wow, you Guys get some real snow in the south and around the Great Lakes areas.

Up here if we get 4-6 inches it is considered lots in one crack. Usually the snow is powdery up here, it can be wet and heavy at times, with freezing rain or pellets too.

A major dump might produce10 inches, extreme might be a foot, we would probably have no snow, but once it lands here this time of the year, it is cold enough outside for it to not melt much.

This is a good thing up North, as when it gets good and cold for long periods of below 0 f, we need snow cover for septic fileds, water lines, sewer lines etc..... PS we have had 22 inches of snow fall in November and December, probably 70% remains, our yearly avearge of total snow fall is like 36-40 inches from November to April 1.

Fargo and Grand Forks ND has much more snow that us, and they are straight south of here, the Red River flows from Fargo through Winnipeg to Lake Winnipeg, which spells flooding in spring.....

We now have a light snow going on here in southwest Missouri.

Began later last night....probably not quite an inch yet but still

coming down. Haven't been out yet, but I imagine the main

roads are OK.

We have had lots of snow and blowing snow in the southern Alberta region. Icy roads and poor visibility. My son drives a semi pulling B-train grain trailers (65+ tons loaded) throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan, and sometimes into Manitoba. They go out no matter what is happening with the weather. Yesterday, he drove over 500 miles in less than ideal conditions. He actually has a snow day today as he lost all his coolant and his truck needs to be repaired. One of the few days it has let him down and it has around 750,000 miles on it.

My god I thought I saw big foot on your porch! But it was a big purple people eater I think? Hay is that Plymouth you have in your garage picture a blackout model? Noticed the grill painted. Jon

the Plymouth that you see stored in the barn is a P15 buisness coupe and the grille has the stainless strips removed at this time..really quite a find as there is no rust through on this body or floors..poor creature has to sit with its nose in the wind as their is just not enough room to store two end to end within 30 foot deep...plans are to endtend the barn another 10 foot at this point, with a high roof in case I decide to get another lift..

Charlie, you would be well advised to get her a snow movie to watch at home and keep the family safe..and while she is sitting in front of the tube..shave a bit of ice and make a ball and smack her in the head lightly with it..then make her hold it in her hand three minutes and what ever is left..put it down her socks..this will not only build character but will break her of any silly notion that snow and ice is fun..it is very effective when you start this type of training in their formative years..

Tim, can you save it on the ground like that till Saturday? My daughter has never seen snow and we might drive up.

If I never see snow again, it will be too soon!:P

I'm with you! It's snowing here and they're expecting 15-20cm by wednesday, that should be just enough to make feeding the animals difficult.

And the rest of Canada knows that those who live on the left coast have trouble driving in the white crap!:P I have a brother in Victoria but he grew up on the prairies so he should be OK. Seriously, hope all goes well with you and the animals and you make it through OK.

You are right on the heater..last Friday the exchanger for the central ducting and the Pex-Al-Pex fittings arrived...this is not going to happen overnight..I will still need some help hanging the two self contained units from the garage ceiling also..they are a bit heavy and bulky. Get it all in place, establish a plan of attack and call a work day..most of my buds live about 25 miles away..they have volunteered to come down for a work day..folks in the neighborhood are mainly a few years my senior..
