14 below here in Dublin last week, about 2 degrees above now,

That is celsius, so about 10 above f last week and about 28-30 f now, that is mild weather by our winter standards.....go for a ride if the roads dry up....

They were forecasting snow today and tomorrow, so I chained up in keen anticipation — only a skiff so far, but here's hoping for a big dump soon!

My cheerful copilot is here from Nicaragua on an exchange and likes riding in the old car but would happily do without the winter weather (-14C/+7F this afternoon). There's not heat in the '26 T but I do have one floorboard out and that allows a bit of engine warmth into the front seat.

Chris, that looks great, aren't you afraid of salt/snow rust damage to your car.

Most likely it is too cold and relatively solid packed snow on the roads, so not as bad as slushy melting snow, when temps are near freezing....

That's a great picture, but I hate to see these old cars set out in the weather. I have six all stored in the dry, my pick-up and my wife's new car set out in the weather. I have had several friends ask why I leave the new car out. I tell them the new car can take it better, plus it will probably be in the crusher in ten years anyway. And I hope the old iron be still be around for many more years.

We have very little salt on the road here for the past few years, and yes, I usually wait until it is colder and avoid the slushy roads. I really enjoy driving my cars, but unfortunately they get a little used up that way compared to most collector cars.

Where did you get the chains for that Model T? Sometime I'd like to get my 33 up to the Sierra for some snow pictures. I did it a while ago but the roads were clear so the photos were not as interesting as I'd like. But when there is snow on the roadway then chain control is usually being enforced.

Thanks '40P, that's a nice look for the car.

TodF, I got those chains from under the back seat — this was a mostly original car when I bought it at auction in Sept '06, and the chains, some miscellaneous tools, and the original side curtains (completely shot) and irons were under the seats.

I'm sure you would. Supposedly an inch of rain would be a foot of snow.

I got called to work this morning before 5am' date=' freezing rain, we were out sanding and salting the roads. This time of year I would rather see snow before freezing rain[/quote']

I couldn't agree with you more Bob, we usually get some frezing rain, but this year powdery snow, and now cold, when cold the roads are super dry, and any snow packed roads, you have better traction when ice and snow is colder......

That would be fairly powdery snow for the mountains here. "Sierra Cement" seems to be about 10" of snow for 1" of water content. Of course it consolidates once its on the ground...
