41/53dodges
i was working on rebuilding my carb, single carter, and some tiny ball fell out of somewhere, not the accelerator pump ball, as its still there, where would it come from? Greenbomb
Would like to help you, but I don't have a clue. So, if you get it figured out, please let the rest of us know. I have visions of the same thing happening when I tear into my carb. good luck, and thanks.
Tom Skinner
Have you got a manual? Somewhere in it should be an exploded view of your Carburetor showing all the parts. I think there are 2 places that it could have come from besides the accelerator pump/shaft. For instance at the Dash Pot area, under the Spring (If equiped with a Dash Pot) or in the Fuel Bowl Area near the bottom at the Pump Check Plug. It seems like a real pain but if you go on line looking for Carter Ball and Ball Carburetors there are some exploded views to look at as well. In addition to that a rebuild kit should contain the same "exploded view" picture. Good Luck and let us know what you found out. Tom Huntersville NC. greg g
For a carter, there are 2 check balls in the acc pump circuit. Go to the old car manual site, they have a linl to the carb king or the carb doctor, that site has exploded diagrams of carters and solexes. There are supposed to be some retaining clips but sometime they go missing. A new rebuild kit should have 2 new check balls and 2 new reainers

Young Ed
The two balls are different sizes too. The smaller one goes under the accelerator pump. Also I've only ever seen a clip for that one. Never for the other.
Don Coatney
Tool Tip! When ever you disassemble anything such as a carburetor do it in an old cake pan or a baking sheet with elevated side rails and spread refrigerator magnets in the bottom of the pan. Less likely to lose stuff.
oldodge41
Good tip Don. I have a metal bowl with a permanently attached magnet I use for smaller stuff but the 'fridge magnets in a larger pan is something I will surely use in the future.
