Some were probably available through the dealer, but most were aftermarket. The 8 passenger DeSoto Suburban (not a station wagon) was probably the one car that had the rack as a factory option. Maybe the Travel All aslo.

That that style of rack was likely copied by aftermarket providers and mounted on other MOPAR lines.

Neil,

When I was a kid my father had wooden roof racks identical to the ones in your second picture. He had them for years, used them on a 46 Chrysler, 52 Chrysler Windsor, 53 Plymouth, then cut them down to use on a 60 VW. I wonder what happened to those racks?
