Robin (UK) Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 A friend just sent me this link... http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=140&t=909397&mid=47682&nmt=1949%20dodge%20%22hearse%22%20! It's certainly an interesting vehicle. Quote
normanpitkin Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Dead nice!People will be dying to drive in it...etc etc Quote
Merle Coggins Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 That's pretty cool. It should look great once it's all restored. I find it interesting though that it is right hand drive but the glove box doesn't switch sides. Will the door open fully with the steering column there? And with the starter button still over on the left that would be rather inconvienent. I wonder what that other switch is on the top of the dash? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Wiper switch???????? Weren't the non-export models originally made so the steering wheel could be changed to the right if needed? Maybe that was done here. Quote
JBNeal Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Where is the gas pedal? look where the steering column intersects the brake pedal in the pic, you can just make out the throttle linkage going through the floor board. The gas pedal is purt'near the same color as the floor board, so it's sorta camouflaged. Starting this varmint in cold weather must be a chore, gotta straddle the park brake to engage the starter & pump the gas whilst fiddlin' with the choke...I reckon this was designed by a big band drummer Quote

Dennis_MN Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Cool truck! There's a truck to die for! Quote
Merle Coggins Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Wiper switch???????? Wiper switch is the smaller one in the center. I'd guess that it's an aftermarket turn signal switch. That makes sense. Thanks. Quote
Phil Martin Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 It was always a hassle to work gas pedal and floor starter at same time with right foot. No problem with this one. Quote
TodFitch Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 It was always a hassle to work gas pedal and floor starter at same time with right foot. No problem with this one. I pretty much use the hand throttle when the right foot is on the starter pedal: Left foot holding clutch down. Left hand manipulating choke knob. Right hand manipulating hand throttle knob. Right foot on starter pedal. If any more controls needed to be manipulated at the same time to start the car I'd be in trouble. Quote
