Reg Evans Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 Well thanks guys. Yes, yesterday was my 62nd B-Day and today will be my first full day of paid retirement. As Young Ed mentioned I haven't been working for the last couple of years because of the economic downturn. At least now I'll be receiving some of the dough back from the gubment that I've been sending in for the last 44 yrs. !!! Oh.....I do smoke and leak a bit but it's OK cause I live 5 miles out of town on some acreage. Quote

Don Coatney Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 How about on or about Saturday, May 11, 1946 Poppa Don ? I asked Rainman's brother. Good guess as I pulled all of the bogus numbers I posted out of thin air just to make you do some research. The thick air I only expell after eating 3-4 roasting ears:D Of interest I just finished re-watching rainman today for the untheenth time. Still a great movie. Happy birthday and happy retirement. Dennis_MN Posted August 20, 2010 Report Posted August 20, 2010 Happy Birthday Reg!! Happy Retirement as well. Mine was on the 16th but I'm about 5 yrs away from early retirementDon't waste a minute of the retirement...make every second count!!! So you will be one of the guys opting for social security at age 62, good for you, I've been on it for 8 years now but your only problem is to wait for some medical coverage when you reach 65 unless your wife has you covered. Most of us think that Social Security is Tax Free money, wrong old baby boomer! They passed a law back in 1982 that they can tax the "rich" people getting Social security so they tax up to 85% of it. The only problem is that they never adjusted the tax tables for inflation so most of us early retirees that have a little income or we have a young wife who works, end up having most of our social securiy taxed. Its always a surprise for that first year when we didn't expect that so think about having withholding taken out by social security. I volunteer to to tax returns for AARP for seniors and disabled folks and see a lot of surprized folks that first year. Will that tax table ever get adjusted for inflation? no body wants to touch that monkey when they don't have enough for social security period. Even AMT which was in that same boat seems be be getting fixed but us retirees don't have a good lobby. Ok off my soapbox, just looking at a way to express my unhappiness with the stupid tax tables. Reg Evans Posted August 20, 2010 Report Posted August 20, 2010 Thanks Dennis for that tax info. I should be OK this year because I'm going to have another loosing year in the const. business.......3 in a row. I won't get my first SS check until about Oct. 20th and we have a pretty good medical plan through my wife's work. Quote
Robert Horne Posted August 20, 2010 Report Posted August 20, 2010 Happy Birthday and Retirement Reg. I hit 62 on the 7th.....Bob:rolleyes: Quote
