Quote
aero3113 Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 Well that show didn't do us any good.LoL I would have bought it for $5500 that car was in great shape. Quote
1940plymouth Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 Just came in from the garage,we watched the last few minutes of it, it surely was a 1940 Plymouth Quote
pflaming Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 I thought the $3,500 estimate was low, glad to see that others concurred. That was a nice find. Last week they had a Teraplane. When the trunk was opened, a box pulled out like a drawer and made the car into a pickup. It may be that it really was intended as a drawer to display a traveling salesman's wares. Good show, enjoy it a lot. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 Yeah......their appraiser buddy said value in his opinion was $3000 to $5000. Like most old cars, it had a lot of plusses and a few minuses. It was really amazing how much stuff they found in the barns, sheds and basements of those people's homes where they were. Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 I saw it last night and I agree with Rodney and Bob. It's no doubt a 1940. Tom Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 I think it was the guy from whom they got the Plymouth.....who had a 50 Studebaker as well in the basement, plus they had to remove the 57 Chrysler or DeSoto to get the Plymouth out. And there were some even more ancient vehicles in those places. Someday, when the current owners are gone, I guess there will be some big auctions or lots of scrap hauled to salvage. Just goes to show there are still more "barn finds" out there. Quote
Flatie46 Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 I watched it but missed the part where they bought it:(. Are the headlights the big difference between the 39 and the 40 or is there something else? I don't know that model that well. I do Like the show. Quote
Young Ed Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 The 39-40 are kinda odd in that they look very similar from the front but none of the parts interchange except for the enameled ornament. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 I think tV is becoming our worst enemy. First BJ now this show. I wish they would stick to juke boxes and signs leave the cars alone. That guy paid way to much for that car. The guy they trust with prices gets out of a fiberglass hot rod what does he know about antiques. Those bikes and motor cycles. They were shells, junk. I got that stuff at the house in the sheds. My Plymouth(1940) was in about the same shape that one was in I paid 350.00 it was a P-9 Bus, Coupe just like the one on the show. There is no way I would give that kind of money for a car that would not run. I don't know, what do I know. I don't have a sow or throw money away so I can't comment:) Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 I'm with you Rodney, there is no reality in reality TV...refuse to watch that stuff..of course I never watch sports on TV either..if left to me there would be no sports in any school as it takes away from proper education..there would be televising of sports as it seems to make heros out of criminals.. Quote
randroid Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 Rodney, I'll take your word that you don't have a sow, although I have heard you can be a real boar. (Please smile now. That was a joke to give Tim an opportunity to make us all groan a few more times.) If you have a lot of 'junk' like that why not give the pickers a call? They work the East Coast (which, to a person living in Colorado, is anything East of St. Louis) and you might be able to clear enough room for another vehicle which you could buy by selling a $1000 bicycle frame. Just a thought. -Randy Quote
greg g Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 I have watched the show twice, I can't like it. Especially when they show the money they are supossed to be making. Once in a great while they will show a selling price against what they bought an itm for and then show a profit. The rest of the time they show their cost and a "VALUE" what a crock. Of course most fo the stuff they sell is to other folks who have no idea of the line between Junque and Collectable. They just want the stuff for restaurant walls, movie props and to take on Antiques Roadshow (at least some of those apparisers have some idea what they are talking about) And the "researcher" sitting on the phone vectoring them into picking hot spots, what I wanna know is who is leading her to the leads???? Some of the folks they met up with are interesting,, ad if I could spend the day going through some of the stuff they run across it might be fun. But I tend to believe my luck would come under the "even a blind squirrel rus a cross a nut once in a while" then share any of there "luck". Maybe they will stumble across a cache of boxes of Brass Fire Extinguishers, valued at $2400 each and retire the show. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 Rodney,I'll take your word that you don't have a sow, although I have heard you can be a real boar. (Please smile now. That was a joke to give Tim an opportunity to make us all groan a few more times.) -Randy I think that bicycle pissed me off more than anything. It was a frame and he got 1000 for it. I just don't get it. They walked past that Bullit nose Studebaker like it was not there. What do I know . Randy that was to funny:) right Quote
Powerhouse Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 haven't seen the show yet...don't care to pay for cable tv...not worth it in my opinion. ANyway, i'd love to see those guys go to a collectors house/barn/whatever, like a few I know, and have the collector kick the crap out of them for being so stupid and fake! HAHAHA that I'd pay to see. Quote
48P15Annie Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 I found the website for their shop & emailed them and told them the year was wrong. No reply... Quote
moparbenny Posted March 16, 2010 Report Posted March 16, 2010 hi all, long time no see yeh i saw the show tonight must be a re-run i too emailed them...about it being a 1940...plus the dodge hood ornament they bought was clearly for a D24 not 51-52! i about went through the roof there is a reason why i don't watch t.v... it just reminds me of this movie i was watching last week the guy was driving a 1971-2 charger and he kept calling it a '69.. and it had the "Super Bee" 4 speed...thanks guys i just needed to vent.... Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 16, 2010 Report Posted March 16, 2010 hard to fix stupid..but that is what makes it reality TV..these guys do exist in real life...everyone can make a mistake, have a brain fart..but as it is national TV..you'd think a bit of reasearch/editing would be involved..folk watch the boob tube and accept this media as gospel... P-12 Tommy Posted March 16, 2010 Report Posted March 16, 2010 I'm also a detail man. There's so many bloopers it's crazy. Tom Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 16, 2010 Report Posted March 16, 2010 wife say's I'm to critical..caught a major blooper on the discovery channel as I walk pass the TV the other night..mentioned it and the wife say..not so..rewind..sure as the world..it right past her ears..wrong wrong..wrong.. she wondered how many people like her just let it slip by without picking up on it..she don't like it when I watch Family guy, says its stupid..and my answer..it is supposed to be...nothing is sacred and equal opportunity poking.. Roadkingcoupe Posted March 16, 2010 Report Posted March 16, 2010 The 39-40 are kinda odd in that they look very similar from the front but none of the parts interchange except for the enameled ornament. The 1939/1940 Plymouth cloisone front medallion looks identical but they differ in the mounting studs. 1939 has two thin threaded mounting studs, the 1940 has two fat non threaded studs (secured with a clip). Easily interchangeable by drilling out the holes in the stainless steel vertical grill molding. Even the 1941 medallion looks the same but has one centrally located threaded stud and an additional backing plate. The detail on them is great. Quote
