greg g Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 Looks pretty stout what ever it might be. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 Looks like some kind of high end engineering competition. MIT vs Harvard or something. Quote
Young Ed Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 Looks like early front wheel drive Quote
dezeldoc Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 I'm thinkin some kind of early dozer or scraper, look at the rear trunions. Quote
greg g Posted February 19, 2010 Author Report Posted February 19, 2010 here is anoher shot. Don't thinks its a dozer or a diesel. Looks like a supercharged, Overhead Cam V8 with front wheel drive. Quote
Greenbomb Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 Maybe it's the lost prototype for that big roadster Jay Leno has!! Quote
Andydodge Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 Thats not the start of an early front wheel drive Novi V8 indy Roadster?..........only a guess but I'll check my Offy history book tonite............whatever it is I like the centrificul blower mounted at the front........yum.....andydc Quote
Andydodge Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 I have the Gordon White "Offenhauser" book........no pics that show the Novi, did a search thru google, the pics on the main Offy site aren't real clear but my money's on it being a Novi.......Offy's BIG brother.........FWD and trailing 1/4 eliptic springs........whatever it is, I'd happily donate my left gonad for it................yummy.......I LOVE alloy, DOHC's and centrifical blowers........imagine the gear sounds!!.......andyd Quote
greg g Posted February 19, 2010 Author Report Posted February 19, 2010 Andy I agree withthe possibility of an Indy entry. The FWd looks like a Cord, but they never had an OHC production engine, thier v8 was a Lycoming built deal. Might also be a LAND Speed vehicle. Looks a lot heavier built than its indy contemporaries. It's froma series of photos that supposidly came out of the Los Angeles area, which lends it self to dry lakes or Bonneville venues. All the one off cast stuff is certainly auto porn. Offys were all dual overhead cam 4s I believe. I thought he NOVI's were Studebaker based, but perhaps that was later on in the 40/50's. Quote
vintage6t Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 Looks like a Cord front wheel drive. Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 Is it sitting on wooden saw horses? Quote
Buford Solomon Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 Is it sitting on wooden saw horses? I was going to ask the same thing. Sitting on wooden sawhorses. Yeeha! Re: the Novi engine. I thought the Novi was made by mounting two Offy heads (the head castings featuring cylinder sleeves and water jackets integral to the conventional "head") on a different crankcase. BS Quote
greg g Posted February 19, 2010 Author Report Posted February 19, 2010 Wassamatta, you never heard of biodegradable chassis jig??? Quote

greg g Posted February 20, 2010 Author Report Posted February 20, 2010 The rear of the chassis looks a bit different than the indy ones. But the pic was supposedly taken in LA so miller fits. Quote
