Plymouthy Adams Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 it arrived after dark on a cold wet Gerogia day...very complete car really..decent useable interior...excellent project car..was able to inspect undercarriage prior to purchase..this car does not appear to have had any body dinking with major panel repair and such...that is always a plus...I will have it here about 3 weeks before it goes home to Kentucky Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Car looks good. Is that the car this guy was driving? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 23, 2009 Author Report Posted November 23, 2009 I don't think so Don but with his interest in the old cars at the house that day..I am sure he would like to drive that sucker... Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Interesting that the old fuzz buster has a blue gumball. Red was the color of the day. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 23, 2009 Author Report Posted November 23, 2009 (edited) yeah..that lens will need be changed if he keeps it in the Police motiff...the gumball does work by the way...did not hit the siren..but the siren is contolled by a starter relay so the folks knew a bit about amp consumption.. who knows what the real story is behind these old cars...as in most cases I feel the car was done in this fashion for parades and such...I in no way believe it is an original police car..but it does look good with the siren, light and door markings.. Don Coatney Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Is the dash woodgrain original? Interesting that it is a two door cop car. In watching many of the Highway Patroll episodes that were posted on here a while back most of the cop cars seen on that show were also two door cars. Quote
Young Ed Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 2 doors were cheaper back then. Although a pontiac being a fairly highend car seems unlikely for a police car. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 23, 2009 Author Report Posted November 23, 2009 without child locks of today, the ability of a felon to grab a door handle and get out was probably a feature for the use as a cop car..actually most four door cop cars in the more recent times had the interior door handle removed making it possible only to open from the outside.. Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Buicks and Merc's were used on the highway patrol shows. Both are higher end cars. Secret advertising? Quote
greg g Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Our county sheriffs used Pontiacs and Olds during the 40's. The office had three divisions, jail, transport and road patrol. Road patrol used both 2 and 4 door sedans, they would call the transport unit if anybody needed haulin in. Transport used extended roof sedan delivery style paddy wagons. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 If it wasn't for the sign on the door and the gumball, I'd think that was a Yellow Cab instead of a police car. Don't believe I've ever seen a yellow police car. Quote
pflaming Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Maybe it wasn't a police car, maybe it was an 'ambulance chasing' lawyer with political aspirations. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 24, 2009 Author Report Posted November 24, 2009 I have no doubt in my mind whatsoever it was just a prop car..done in this manner for local parades and what not...fixed up, red bubble...rent it to the movie makers..I do however like the name plate on the dash,....Silver Streak wonder if that has anything to do with the big wide siler band across the hood and down the center of the trunk lid.. Quote
T120 Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 ..Nice looking 2 door..and.. a flathead Quote
eric wissing Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 I think Pontiac was using the name "silver streak" because of the train. Almost same time period. Eric Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 Cute car. I also doubt it's authenticity as a police vehicle. If I owned it, would leave it as is with minor improvements including chnging color of the roof light. Quote
greg g Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 I would think that the bubble gum machine is a little to new for this application. Flashing light/s maybe, revolving, I don't think so. Quote
