PatS.... Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 We in NY just passed a no smoking within 100 feet of a hospital or health care center entry. Our hospitals prohibit smoking anywhere on the hospital grounds and the sidewalks surrounding the grounds! Can't even smoke IN YOUR OWN CAR in the parking lot either!!! Haven't heard how they would enforce that one...I think the lawyers would have a great time with that. Quote
PatS.... Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 I neither smoke nor drink, but I do not support government regulations on either. I know very few smokers that aren't aware of the risks involved with smoking. However, I am not so naive to not realize that there are also benefits to smoking. However, I think any business can set standards on what they allow on their premises. If an employee doesn't want to work at a smokey bar then a) they should have never applied to work there and they should quit and work some where else. The flip-side, of course, is that an employer can refuse a job to some one because they are a smoker or even if they are a non-smoker. Same holds true that a business can refuse service and even forcibly remove some one who wants to smoke on their premises. Big Brother, however, should not be telling any one how to run their private business. The market can best determine what is best, and niches can form to meet people's preferences. There is just as much room as a smoker's only business as there is for smoking prohibited. The no smoking in a workplace rules here are from the Workers Compensation Board. People are claiming Comp benefits saying second hand smoke at work made them unable to work. Even smokers are claiming benefits for second hand smoke illness. So, WCB clamped down on workplace smoking. WCB has alot of power. No opting out either if you don't have even one employee. Quote
Reg Evans Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 Good on ya Don. My sediments exactly ! I think you are right about me contracting MoParnymphomania too. Just about every time I walk through my garage I'll call my cars by name while patting them on the trunk and stroking their front fenders. Some times I even crouch way down so I can feel under their skirts. Quote

dezeldoc Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 Personally i hope they ban the damn things all together! after watching over half of my family die from lung cancer, i got no use for them, never smoked and never saw a reason to stuff my lungs full of that crap, smokers are nasty, dirty slobs! i know some very nice people that smoke but they are slobs when it comes to smoking, flicking butts all over the place, dumping ashes all over the place and what not! nothing worse that sitting at a stop light and some fool has their smoke hanging out the window blowing in my window polluting my air making me breathe their crappy smoke! Ok enough with this, i think ya found my sore spot! PS, if i offended any smokers oh well! Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 Personally, I think they should ban humans from passing gas.:D:D To me that can sometimes make one gag or pass out.:D:D Not to mention the pollution that causes. Quote

Frank Elder Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 Reg;It did not kill you but it did infect you with Moparphobianimphomania and there is no known cure for this afflexiation. When I did smoke fags I never tossed my butts in anyones back yard except my own. It looked like a fag filter plantation behind my deck but it was my house, my back yard, my deck, and nobodys business except my own. I have not tossed a butt behind my deck in over 3 years and there are no remenents to be found today. So the theory that filters do not de-generate is hog wash based on my scientific study. Birds and mice use em for nesting. Quote
greg g Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 So now we have to worry about mice and birds getting cancer from toxins trapped in the material.............any way we can talk squirrels and chipmunks into using them????? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 30, 2009 Author Report Posted October 30, 2009 birds and mice are of no concern...it is the cockroaches that are building an immunity to the toxins.. Quote
mackster Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 Yep you are gonna have to have an EPA aproval sticker sewn onto your jeans to be able to go out in public or use an elevator.............Just recently all of our local hospitals institutes a 200 foot rule. No butts with in 200 feet of and entrance or exit. There is something about having to walk through a cloud of smoke from all the employees hanging out by the front door on their breaks. Guess it the old deal where your rright to swing your fist ends where my nose begins. I drove past a hospital today and most of the employees where accross the sreet smoking! it seems like it doesnt do much to stop them from smoking and us the non smokers get to see them suffer! Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 30, 2009 Author Report Posted October 30, 2009 Reg..slow down buddy..nothing under skirts but nuts, er you know the ones that hold the wheels on... Quote

Don't forget that silicone is present in the filter also.....silicosis is bad stuff too. Quote
dezeldoc Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 This brings up another point in the work place, how come the smokers can take smoke breaks whenever they want, but us non smokers only get 2 10 min breaks?? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 30, 2009 Author Report Posted October 30, 2009 thats because you playing by the rules...in the work enviroment there must be a substance in the manufacturing process that could contaminate your coffee or soda..and of course we all know the importance of hydration..so take it outside..if nothing else you can always say you don't like the way Susie looks at you when you are sipping your coffee..I can't get over the fact that our scheduled first break is 8 AM and there are those who don't start work till 8:10..they feel they get the break though they have not even been on the closk for the prior two hours.. RobertKB Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 As an ex-smoker, I can kind of see both sides.........kinda. It's been over 32 years since I had a puff but I smoked for 14 years before then and quit when I was 28 on the day my son was born. I did enjoy smoking but now I cannot believe that I used to do that to my body. I want to live to a ripe old age and smoking is the number one thing that will prevent that. Yes, there are stories of people who are 95 and smoked two packs a day their entire lives but they are a very small exception. They are heavily out-weighed by those that smoked less but are dead or dying of lung cancer. My dad is a retired doctor specializing in internal medicine and he saw a lot of people die from lung cancer. He said it is a terrible way to die......gasping out your life in horrible pain, even with medication. Not enough morphine to mask the pain without killing the patient through overdose. I am glad there are anti-smoking by-laws everywhere with more coming. Quote
