John-T-53
I'm currently rebuilding my B-4-B's power plant and restoring the engine compartment close to factory condition as part of the project. Does anybody know which brand of paint most closely matches the silver engine color? Also, I wanted to get your input on the correct factory paint colors for the following items...I've taken a guess for each part: Air Cleaner: Semi-gloss black Bellhousing: Silver Bellhousing Pan: Gloss Black (?) Breather Cap: Semi-gloss Black Breather Tube: Silver Draft Tube: Semi-gloss Black Engine Block: Silver Fan: Semi-gloss Black Frame: Flat black (?) Front Motor Mount to Frame Bracket: Semi-gloss black Front Motor Mount to Engine Bracket: Silver Generator: Semi-gloss Black Inner Fenders: Semi-gloss Black Intake Manifold: Silver Master Cylinder: Natural Cast Iron Oil Filter: Semi-gloss Black Oil Pan: Silver or gloss black (?) Pulley, Water Pump: Semi-gloss Black Pulley, Crankshaft: Silver Radiator: Gloss black (?) Radiator Core Support: Semi-gloss Black Starter: Semi-gloss Black Steering Box: Natural Cast Iron Timing Cover: Silver Transmission: Silver Upper Radiator/Grill Shell Filler Panel: Semi-gloss Black Water Pump: Silver
Merle Coggins
I don't know if it's "correct" or not, but I used Dupli-Color's Aluminum Engine paint on my engine, bellhousing, and trans. Using your list I'll add what I used. Again, it may not be "correct", but it's what I did. Air Cleaner: Rustoleum Black Bellhousing: Same as engine Bellhousing Pan: Same as Bellhousing/engine Breather Cap: Rustoleum Black Breather Tube: Same as engine Draft Tube: Same as engine Engine Block: Dupli-Color "Aluminum" color Engine paint Fan: Rustoleum Black Frame: POR15 with POR Top Coat Black Front Motor Mount to Frame Bracket: Same as engine Front Motor Mount to Engine Bracket: this is part of the front engine cover, so it is engine color Generator: Black, painted at the starter/alternator shop Inner Fenders: Same as frame Intake Manifold: Dupli-Color High Temp "Aluminum" Color Engine paint used on Both manifolds Master Cylinder: Engine color, but much of it came off when I spilled brake fluid on it during bleeding Oil Filter: Rustoleum Black Oil Pan: Same as engine Pulley, Water Pump: Same as engine Pulley, Crankshaft: Same as engine Radiator: Black, done at radiator shop when recored Radiator Core Support: Same as frame Starter: Black, done at starter/generator shop Steering Box: Same as frame Timing Cover: Same as engine Transmission: Same as engine Upper Radiator/Grill Shell Filler Panel: Same as frame Water Pump: Same as engine Merle
Bob_Koch
Got mine from Mancini Racing. Mopar engine paint - Aluminum Silver.. Goes on real nice. Says it matches the 40-50's engine color. http://chucker54.stores.yahoo.net/mope10.html
Frank Elder
Semi-gloss black looks real good but I think satin black is factory.
John-T-53
The most readily available and durable paint I can find is Rust-Oleum satin black. I think I'm going to stick with this one as I've had great sucess with it in the past. I painted many parts with this under the hood of my Chevy over 10 years ago and it's holding up really well. It resists gas, oil, grease, and high temps, and always cleans up nicely with a rag and WD-40. Back to the shop....I'll post pics soon! Merle Coggins
Here you go John. I was looking through my Don Bunn "Dodge B-Series Trucks" book last night and came across this. I scanned it for your reference.
John-T-53
Thanks Merle. I need to pick me up a copy of Bunn's book.
John-T-53
Got mine from Mancini Racing. Mopar engine paint - Aluminum Silver.. Goes on real nice. Says it matches the 40-50's engine color.http://chucker54.stores.yahoo.net/mope10.html Chrysler is no longer making the Aluminum color engine paint. Just tried to order some more from Mancini and they said it's discontinued :-( Anybody got some laying around they'd like to give up? Or find a good match in a different brand? (it's touch-up time for my block) I always liked the idea of a mopar engine being painted with mopar paint, but with this news, doom and gloom is setting in. Young Ed
POR15 should still have an aluminum in their engine paint lineup

Eastwood is a pretty good source...(mind you everything will cost more than $40.00) they carry most everything for paints and finishes. http://www.eastwood.com/?srccode=ga200220&gclid=CO7Xz7muxacCFUVqKgodgi-BDQ Hank

The color and sheen is perfect. Just expensive and you have to pay/wait for shipping, as said. I'm going to look into the POR-15 silver. I have to pull the head again and replace the intake guides due to premature wear - and want to give it a fresh coat.
