Joe Flanagan
I know I've seen a source for these somewhere. Has anybody had to replace theirs? My rockers are new and they don't have the holes in them for the clips. The original clips are gone. I'll be getting new ones but I wanted to know if anybody had experience with any particular vendor.
desoto1939
Try restoration Supply in Windbar PA. They have a great selection of clips and if you get their catalog they have exact size pictures of each clip so this helps you determine if the clip will fit your application. They are great people to work with. They come to Hershey each year in the chocolate field and also macungie in August. rich hartung
Joe Flanagan
Thanks a lot, Rich. I'll check them out.
greg g
I believe Niel Riddle has them at the plymouth Cafe. check his store on ebay SeaPlym. Also the Mr. Plymouth 1948 has them I believe you can find his contact in the vendors list of the POC Bulletin.
BobT-47P15
Both of those guys are on ebay pretty regularly too.
Rodney Bullock
Joe, Gem Specialty has clips as well, they are over here on Kiry rd. The NAPA has a clip draw as well, you have to ask , they don't put them out for everyone:)
Norm's Coupe
Try this link. http://www.rjlautofasteners.com/ The clip pictured below is the one you need for the P15 rocker molding. This is where I bought mine and they are just like the originals. Bought 2 dozen of them for the same price Mr. Plymouth wanted for 4. Young Ed
Norm when I asked him last winter he was out of the rocker moulding clips and wanted $2 a piece for the belt moulding clips.
Joe Flanagan
I just need to find something that will work and figure out what kind of hole I have to drill. Thanks for the responses.
Norm's Coupe
Ed, I just pulled that picture off their website just a few minutes ago. They were probably just out when you called. Otherwise, you'd think they'd take that picture down. When I need clips several years ago, Mr. Plymouth wanted about $8 to $10 each for those clips, plus shipping and about 4 would have been used clips. As I mentioned, I only paid rj&l about $38 for 2 dozen, and that included shipping. Now, I don't know, maybe Mr. Plymouth's are made of gold, but I wasn't looking for gold at the time, just those clips.
Young Ed
I think RJ has his prices increased to match the others. I know I'm certainly not paying $2 each for the 48 clips needed for the belt line stainless
Norm's Coupe
Ed, I don't know what he charges for belt line clips, never ask since I didn't need any at the time. When I mentioned the clip price, that was just for the rocker molding clips price. That said, I know others charge several dollars each for belt line clips too. So.......you may be stuck paying that much or more, no matter where you get them, especially if you want new clips.
Plymouthy Adams
Ed...when it comes to the beltline molding...some can be reused...they are spred open to mount/closed to remove..as long as the rounded edges are fine just acid dip...prime/paint and reuse..I recommend 3M string caulk on install..else..bite the bullet..for the ease of install and the sure gripping power these things have..itis worth a nickel more to do the job....I just put all new beltline and lower trim fasteners on the 54 on assembly...keep in mind that some of the larger moldings are NLA and I used generic units I reshaped and cut to match to do the job..some of these are offset curves dsign.. Young Ed
I have quite a few that were so rusty they came off with the trim. Somehow that trim on my car was packed solid with dirt which of course means moisture retention and rust.
Joe Flanagan
Right, mine was packed with dirt too. Beltline and rocker trim both. Took sixty years to happen, so I guess it's not that bad. I imagine you could take the trim off from time to time to see what you've got behind it.
greg g
There are aome on ebay right now they are listed for 49-52, but they look to be very similar.
JerseyHarold
Sort of related.... Years ago a local body man offered a service where he would put a tiny bead of caulk around the perimeter of each piece of chrome trim to keep dirt from getting in. Might have trapped more moisture than it was worth.
gnoub1948
Joe, I've been buying them on eBay. There are sets there now. Gary
dndrodshop
I made my beltline clips from fender washers ground to fit and flat on one side and 1/4" bolts welded. Just put the trim on before the interior.
Young Ed
That was my thinking too. I figure I can get a box of bolts and washers for under $10 even when you factor in the nuts for them all it'll be way cheaper.
dirty dan
...keep in mind that some of the larger moldings are NLA... NLA? Is that the same as being made of unobtainium? I'm learning that the rocker trim/moldings for my 2 door sedan is made out of that same stuff.
Plymouthy Adams
NLA yes... No Longer Available I am speaking for my 54 front and rear fender and brow mounting clips..had to fabricate them...unable to find them through my normal sources. I would never try to fabricate the beltline clips...originals are a SNAP literally and will not distort or compress the paint on application...they worth the extra jingle in my book... NatesSedan
I have been looking for the rocker trim clips for quite some time. Noone carried them. RJL autofasteners said they would make some if we sent in a clip. Well...after some doing we got one. It is in the mail as we speak. Once they get the clip, I will let everyone know how it turns out. Hopefully this may help other out there looking.
