I just ordered a pizza and a “buffalo finger plate” for delivery to my hotel room. I chose this place because every other place I looked at listed French fries as a given side with a pizza. I did not want French fries and I have never heard of eating French fries with pizza but having lived in Buffalo I do like wings with pizza.

So what was delivered was a good pizza. The side order turned out to be 3 pieces of chicken breast white meat with red runny (not even tobasco hot) crap all over it and a bunch of French fries and (UCK) onion rings all for an eight buck addition to the total bill. Is this a Boston thing? Do other parts of the country automatically deliver French fries and onion rings with pizza? Does anyone in the food business outside of Buffalo know that wings are not sliced white breast meat?

Don sings the blues...I cannot recall any sides with pizza...except for breadsticks that is...a bit of dipping sauce for the bread...but I agree..if you did not get what you wanted..no amount of anything else makes up for the difference..as for the wangs...they should be just that..cut wings..and the suace..while I do not like burn me down hot..I do indeed like the flavor..and Tobasco is my favorite..

Chicken fingers are chunks of breaded fried chicken, so they did't say wings.

you expected wing sauce east of the Berkshires????? I could call you a Chowda head but it seems too obvious. Fies and onion rings with pizza not in my part of town.

When my wife and I were dating we used to stop a a place the had great onion rings. We would stop after the movies and get a couple 12 oz draughts and and order of onion rings. Best 85 cents you could spend on a Saturday night. The other thing they had for 10 cents more was a platter of hand cut cottage fries. This was of course long befor buffalo wings.

There was a place in Rochester ( might still be there) that served what they called their garbage plate, Layer of fries, 2 cheesburger patties, topped with macaroni and cheese with a couple of fried eggs on top, and a whole half sour dill pickle cut in 4 spears.

Up here in Canada, when you order pizza, all you get is pizza...no sides. As for wings, they have bones in 'em up here.

Then there are chicken fingers...do chickens have fingers??? Anyway, they don't have bones...but some have nails!!!

Chicken fingers came into being before OSHA started monitoring the business! After that they were called chicken mc nuggets!:D

Don,

Sounds like you got what you ordered. Chicken fingers are just as you described and are not wings. Up here you can get a dinner with just chicken fingers and fries or onion rings. Then they usually give you a little side of sauce to dip the fingers into.

I don't think it's a Boston thing, I think it's a lousy hotel thing.

It was not the hotel. It was a local delivery place that delivered to the hotel.

I live in the Northeast and I've never heard of that at all. Wings and pizza are a staple when you order them here in Ct.

Wings and pizza are a staple in just about every place in the country. I have never heard of pizza and fries but most every menu for hotel delivery here in Boston lists pizza with fries as an automatic side.

Don I think they all got together and decided to mess with you because they know you're from out of town. Seriously, I'm from Cape Cod and I've never heard of fries with pizza. I guess it's one of those unsolved mysteries.

Has anyone ever heard of Shakey's Pizza? Don't think they are around anymore. But........back in the 70's and 80's they were a large chain all around the country. They had one of the best "All You Can Eat" bars for lunch that I know of. Well........on that bar was fried chicken and pizza, and, fries. I'm not that much of a Pizza eater myself, but their chicken was great so use to eat lunch there a lot of times. So..........there are some Pizza places that do sell fries with pizza.

Norm, we had a Shakey's Pizza here. It had some sort of roaring 90s theme going if I remember correctly. It was a place we went after games. We were young, the food was cheap. They were shut down for using dog food in their pizzas!! I think that was just a local touch. Eric

Isn't Shakey's Pizza mentioned in the movie "American Graffiti" when Wolf Man jack calls in a prank phone call to them while on the air?? Someone please confirm, my sound track is at home right now.

Eric,

I really wouldn't know what Shakey's put on their pizza's, never had one. I always ate the fried chicken.:D

That said guys, around here you can order hors d'oeuvres with your pizza. Things like Italian garlic bread, cheese sticks, salad, etc. Chicken fingers are also on menu's as hors d'oeuvres in a lot of places. I think Don may have either ordered two meals or pizza with the hors d'oeuvres. What I want to know is how Don ate all that stuff.:D

No, no, the Secret Agent Spy Scopes, man!

Pizzeria Employee in "American Graffiti": "Shakey's Pizza." Wolfman Jack (as himself): "Uh, yeah, listen, you got anymore of those Secret Agent Spy Scopes?" Pizzeria: "Hit Parade on a Stethescope?" Wolfman: "No, no, the Secret Agent Spy Scopes, man! That pulls in the Moon, the Stars, the Planets, the satellites, and the little-bitty Spacemen." Pizzeria: "You must have the wrong number, Pardner!"

Shakeys is still in bidness....

Where is Pizza Frank when we really need him?

Sherwood “Shakey” Johnson and his partner “Big Ed” Plummer opened the first Shakey’s Pizza Parlor® more than 50 years ago. It all started in a remodeled grocery store on 57th and J Street in Sacramento, California back in 1954. Shakey wanted to open a plain ol’ pizza & beer joint, but with a little something unique. They provided delicious Shakey’s pizza, ice cold beer and live Dixieland music for entertainment. Shakey’s quickly became known as the World’s Greatest Pizza.®
