For Those Who Have Seen The Coatney P15

Hi all, I had been telling Don how his paint and color look great on his P15, he is somewhat modest about this, and mentioned it was painted by it's previous owner, in a garage one weekend.

I tell Don it looks great in pics, really nice shade of blue, looks real shiny, body looks nice and straight too.

Now the only guy I can think of that has seen Don's car and has even had a ride and a tour around the Boro is Normscoupe, I know there have been others, but could only remember seeing Norms pictre in Don's car.

Norm, do you recall what Don's paint job and body condition were, it looks great in pics, any idea what type of paint or blue he has on the car. What did you think of the condition of the body, it looks great in the pics.

Just thought I would as Norm and the others, about what the UnderCoatney's car is like in the flesh.......Fred

I'd call it sort of "medium blue".

Body is pretty darn straight.

Do you have any paint sample books to look thru?

I suspect a color about like that has been used on quite a few

later model cars.

Two handsome dudes at a show in the Boro. One is wearing a

T shirt from London (the Rhythm Riot). The other is the genial

host for the day.

Here's Don's and my car in her former glory at the Detroit meet. Greg Gs business coupe is to the left of Don's. All I'll say about Don's paint job is I'd be thrilled if my car had that good of a paint job.

As mentioned, Don's paint job and the car body looks nice. I really can't tell you what color blue you would call it. Guess it would be as Bob mentioned. The color is about the same as on my computer monitor. If Don's not sure of the exact color blue, print the picture onto some photo paper and try to match it with a paint color chart. Won't be exact, but should be close.

If you are looking for a color that is friendly to moderate body work imperfections, start with white, then as you go darker, the warts become more evident.

White, Cream, Ivory, Tan, light gray, light blue, light yellow are good for imperfect panels. Metallics are also not friendly to ameture prep.

I have an Austin Healey Bug eye in the shed that will be Allis Chamlers Cream if and when I get around to it. It has been a competition car most of its life and has been on the roll bar at least 3 times. And my body work not being the best, this Englis Ivory clone color will be lump and bump friendly.

Just want to add this about when I saw Don's car, or anyone's car. I just look at the overall car. I don't inspect it for any imperfections, so even if it did have small imperfections in the body work, I would not have seen it. I'm not one of those that go to car shows and look for mistakes someone made, or small imperfections on a car. Usually, the only time I see some small imperfection is when the owner points it out to me.

i think the most importasnt thing is to 'match' overall quality. not to have a gorgeous paint job and a worn interior...or nice paint and crappy chrome.

unfortunately i have a coupe with a gorgeous paint job and badly in need of woodgraining.....out of balance in looks and feel.

If you are talking about mine(the one with missing grill parts and no bumper guards) it doesn't look like that anymore. I crashed it last fall about 2months after this picture was taken.

All I can say about Don's paint is that maybe if he had polished his paint job a some more to make it a bit more slippery, he might have done better in the BIG RACE... :D

As usual, hit reload on your browser if the pic doesn't show...

Don had to cut out early from Tulsa, so I didn't get a ride in his jalopy... maybe next time.

Also missing the rocker panel stainless trim.

A previous owner went to the trouble of filling in the holes and making

it all nice and smooth.

Fred, I have the Nason formula for the colour on my car if you need it. It crosses to a Volkswagen colour. It might be a bit light for what you have in mind. My car is faded a bit, it's been about 30 years since it has been painted.

Was in a discount auto paint store this afternoon.

Looked at his color charts.

The closest thing was "Bahama Blue", which comes as a metallic or

non-metallic. The one listed as metallic looked the best for shine.

Hi Brendan, sure I would like the Nason # for your paint. I is also a nice blue.

I have not made my mind up completely, I will decide, once my body waork is completed, about 80% there now, but I am an amateur..........Fred
