Young Ed Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 Converts usually had a painted dash because they are welded into the car. Not a removable piece like a sedan/coupe Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 Bill, If you want real nice pictures of the wood grain dashes, you should contact David Maxwell. He had some real nice pictures on his website a few years ago. Send him a PM or email. If you want to wood grain yours, you could do that with the dash in the car. That's how my brother in law did his in his 36 Ford. If you are worried about UV rays fading it, just go over it with a water clear UV resistant urethane sealer or clear coat. Quote
Ramon Angulo Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 heres a pic of my 48 dodge, Decided to go a little different from the stock woodgraining. Quote
Frank Elder Posted March 14, 2009 Report Posted March 14, 2009 Ramon, how did you do that!!!! And more pictures please! Quote
Ramon Angulo Posted March 16, 2009 Report Posted March 16, 2009 Here are a few more pics, A friend of mine helped me. We used a light base coat and then the darker color, we used a paint brush that i cut some of the bristles off and just played with it. You have a certain window of time to play with it. Once it dried i used a small brush and just dabbed with black for the burlwood look. Then i cleared over it. I just played with it on a spare piece until i achieved the look i was looking for. Quote
Ramon Angulo Posted March 16, 2009 Report Posted March 16, 2009 Sorry about the last pic, Its the wrong one! Quote
HughForrest Posted March 16, 2009 Report Posted March 16, 2009 Converts usually had a painted dash because they are welded into the car. Not a removable piece like a sedan/coupe My '38 dash was/is bolted in. Hydro Graphics to look like the later bakelite dash (in my mind)[/img]. Quote
Captain Neon Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 Sorry about the last pic, Its the wrong one! Ramon, that is absolutely beautiful work. You have a gift! If I thought that I could do that well, I would do the same in my P15. If you are at all interested in visiting my area, I'd be happy to let you do that for me. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 That Dodge is pretty nice looking in that white color. Is that one of yours?? If so, how's it coming along? The woodgraining looks good. I think experimenting till you get what you want is a method that's been used by many guys. Quote
David Maxwell Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 ...that were OK, but I've since redone some stuff. I can't believe I haven't taken any pics lately. Just too busy. And in this one I used Photoshop for a retro scene http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v455/bojeta/47%20Plymouth%20Restoration/packageshelf25.jpg Quote
RobertKB Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 Here is the dash on my '38 Chrysler. I had a fellow do this for me but next time, if and when I redo my '48 Dodge dash, I want to try it myself. I painted it a solid colour years ago. One question I have is can the dash be woodgrained when in the car? Quote

Uncle-Pekka Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 Hello Folks! Please post a detail photo of D24 original (mahagonny?) woodgrain. I need a good pattern to replicate for my dash & window frames. The ones in my car has been painted over a long time ago by some previous owner. I only was able to retain an area of the size of a stamp in the corner of the dashboard. Thanks, Pekka Quote
Uncle-Pekka Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 I agree Don, This is a prime example. However, in order to use a photo as model a when replicating the pattern, one needs to have a close up photo. E.g. the glove box door lower part would be a good spot... -Pekka Quote
