I was working on the plymouth today and noticed that the water pump pulley has antifreeze on it and also there was a leak where to top hose connects to the thermostat on the head.

Do i need a new water pump or seals or what?

Thanks

Hose sounds like you need to tighten a clamp. Water pump pulley would be more of a concern. Antifreeze has to be leaking from somewhere to get on the pulley like that. Try to wipe everything down, leave things for a while, and then look to see where it is coming from. Pumps are relatively cheap and easy to get. NAPA for one sells them. They are a pretty easy replacement.

There are two different kind of pumps. One with the external bypass and one with an internal bypass. Make sure you get the right one. Not sure when the change over was but likey 1950 or 1951.

Anyone have the Napa Part Number for the 218 water pump?

Thanks

Good luck. I was looking for a water pump this spring for my 41. First I ordered from Rock Auto, only to have them cancel it because they couldn’t get them anymore. Next I ordered from NAPA online, only to have them cancel it because none were available. I looked at Parts America (Advanced Auto Parts online side), nothing. Checked with both O’Reilly’s and Auto Zone here in town, they couldn’t get one. Stopped by Car Quest, in Omaha, they showed nothing.

I was finally able to order one from the Parts Train online. I think it’s a generic one, it will work on the by-pass and none by-pass. I thought it was making noise last fall, but this spring it was fine. So I haven't installed it yet. I also picked up a rebuild kit on the Bay. Lee

I sure hope so. We ran out of time to investigate fully but we suspect the accident moved the hub on the WP back. The fan blades barely barely clear the generator.

I see roberts and maybe others sell a water pump repair kit the online does not show whats included you would have tp call to find out.

As to napa I would go to the store not sure about the napa online but when I go to my local store they usually get me what I need if not in another store or napa warehouse then from the manufacture

I got my water pump from Terrill Machine when I ordered my engine rebuild parts in Aug 2007. I used the water pump rebuild kit on my 48 convertible's pump years ago and it worked well. I had to press the bushings out of the housing and press new ones in but I was still working and could use the press in the shop. JohnS

If its just the hose leaking the pump pulley might be picking up the drippage and flinging it around. Clean it up assure the hose is or is not leaking and goe from there.

I stopped at the local napa and had them look up a water pump for the 48. The closest one he could find was chicago and they only had the one so I had them order it. Looks like maybe they stopped carrying them. sucky
