oldmopar Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Looks good what color is that it looks like it may be a good color for my 52 suburban when it gets painted which is a long way off. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 27, 2008 Author Report Posted November 27, 2008 I chose a fleet color from my supplier, known as Powder Blue, did not want to go with the Pasedena gray original color..just a bit too drab for my liking..the paint is single stage acrylic enamel and is from Limco and carries stock # 79580 The other is also a stock fleet color..so very close to the original metallic secondary color..again, single stage acrylic by Limco and is know as Medium Blue Met. and carries stock number 580579 Quote
55 Fargo Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Looks great Tim, looks like our fall around your place, cept it looks that way here at the end of September..........Fred Quote
JerseyHarold Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Another Plymouth reborn. Looks great! Quote
PatS.... Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 My favourite by far of the 49-54 Plymouths. Great job, Tim...love the colors!! Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Congrats Tim; Did you or one of your wives Sal/Margaret drive it through the orchard???? Whose car is this? I have first hand experiance of driving through your orchard and I know how difficult it is to dodge the trees:D Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Looks good Tim, but you should have bought a Dodge. That way it would dodge the trees better. Quote
Bingster Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Great transformation. Looks wonderful. I'm in the process of doing my '47 Desoto. It's been a year, now, and just getting the front end work done and put back together. I am curious as to how much money in replating I'm looking at. Can you give us any numbers as to how much your chrome parts were? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 27, 2008 Author Report Posted November 27, 2008 zero...no chrome plating was done to this car... Quote
RobertKB Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 zero...no chrome plating was done to this car... Definitely one of the important things to consider when buying a project car is the condition of the chrome and completeness of any stainless steel trim. Looks like Tim picked a winner with this '54 Plymouth. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 27, 2008 Author Report Posted November 27, 2008 there are a few things that would be improved with new chrome..but at the moment..this will have to do..I have too many cars to complete behind this one to blow my retirement on chrome service...lol I did find a couple better than original pieces and put on the car..very little invested though.. this car was brought to me as the man knew I liked old Plymouths..I was not in the market for a car but for the overall condition and price, being a two door and an automatic...I figured why not...at least the wife coul possibily drive this one..her little short legs just did not do good for clutching and shifting on the tree at the same time...I know..I got her a 49 Plymouth years ago..she never drove it... Frank Elder Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Tim, Esmey is 4-11 and she can't reach the clutch pedal either, but her foot can still connect with my a$$! Watch out for the little ones, they can really sneak up on YA ! Quote
wayfarerstranger Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 What A Shame To Paint Over That Beautiful Rust ,,, Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 27, 2008 Author Report Posted November 27, 2008 Chance...send me your address...I saved the rust for seed....in no time your car could look just like this one did...still need a mint green surfboard..cheap that may be in need of repair..only thing it needs to catch is your eye...at my age I would be happy to catch Gidget... Brendan D25 Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 The Plymouth looks good and Happy Birthday. Brendan. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 Hey Tim, you have done a superb job, I agree totally with your chrome theory. The car has a color that can not be forgotten. The cars from the 50's look good in these colors. It being an automatic will make driving effortless. I must enjoy your work, the interior will be a breeze:D I hope I get to see it in person. Quote
55 Fargo Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 Oops Forgot, BTW Happy Birthday, now I know why you like torches, your a Sagitarius, aka fire sign, my entry to the world was November 21,1961, just turned 47 agghhh Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 28, 2008 Author Report Posted November 28, 2008 Fred, what a shame..missed it by that much (Sagitarius) How many have seen the Get Smart movie?....I loved the way they went from the Tiger to the Opel to the Karman Ghia...the three cars used in the TV series..my grandson could not understand why I had a toy (collector series Tiger) still in the bubblepack....and not out so you can roll it across the floor... Norm's Coupe Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 Well Tim, I guess you win the race for now. Went out to put up some deco's a little while ago. Thought I'd start the coupe up and let her run for awhile in the garage. Went to start it up and it's deader than a doornail. So.........guess I'll just pull the battery out and get a new one. No point in buying it now though, would just have to keep it charged up. Will wait until February or March then replace it. So, your little ride around the orchard wins the fall race. I know this will disappoint Don C as I will not be pulling it out into the driveway this winter like I usually do. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 28, 2008 Author Report Posted November 28, 2008 I hate winning by default..but hey..its a win...lol...The six volt batteries are not anywhere like the old one used to be in my opinion...and I would be more apt to do the same and buy it fresh when the driving season starts anew... Actually there was never a race per say...I am just happy that I was able to get some really decent weather and able to dedicate the needed time to finish this car up paint wise and get it back together...got a few things to do..one I did today..I did not have my specialty tag on the car when I snapped the pics..its there now...I am thinking I will will paint the dash island, inlay trim and steering wheel before the interior is installed.. Don Coatney Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 .I know this will disappoint Don C as I will not be pulling it out into the driveway this winter like I usually do. Suggest you clean your battery terminal connections, connect the battery charger overnight, and try again. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 The last battery I had lasted about 4 to 6 years. The warranty on them is only 2 years. Don't remember how old this one is, but it's at least 2 or 3 years old or more. Will have to look it up for my own benefit. So, it didn't last too long. Probably should have changed it last August when I had the problem with the stopped up fuel filter. Ran it down pretty fast trying to start the car then with the stopped up filter. Charged it up instead though. Then it seemed to hold the charge. Changed the fuel pump about the first of the month because the other one was clacking away. Started right up after that ok, even took it for a little ride then. Then I flipped the car around in the garage about 2 weeks ago and was ok. But.........guess with this cold snap we had it just wasn't strong enough to hold the charge. Usually replace batteries when they give me trouble once. Broke that rule this time though. Just proves one should not break one's own rules. At least it's parked in there so I can get the snow blower in and out easily. That was the reason for flipping it around to begin with. So, it can just sit there now, it's not in the way of anything. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 Suggest you clean your battery terminal connections, connect the battery charger overnight, and try again. Just did that not long ago. They are nice and clean. It's just a dead battery that's lived it's life. Its time for it to go to battery heaven now. Quote
