For the Younger Guys (Text Lingo Question) OT

Norm's Coupe

Recommended Posts

Or, any of you old cogger's like me that may know the answer. Remember, I'm not into Text messaging, much less the lingo used.

When I powered up my cell phone yesterday it said I had a text message. Knowing no one except my wife has my cell number, I opened it up anyway. Was what I thought was a funny message, but didn't understand the last part of it. So.........here it is.

QUOTE:

i stole nicky's phone. pick me up and we'll go to taco bell or out for some fury burgers.

END QUOTE:

Of course I didn't answer it. Maybe I should have though, and said I'll pick you up in an hour. Then let them wait and no one shows up.:D Would teach them to actually call someone on the phone and speak. But maybe they didn't know how to speak.

Anyway, for the question. What in the world is a fury burger? If the answer can't be put here, just say so and I'll then understand somewhat.

I tried looking it up at www.urbandictionary.com but it wasn't defined yet. They way its written makes me think its possibly making fun of fastfood. Possibly a mold reference. Merles explanation makes sense too though. Norm maybe for the good of the group you should text back and ask.

Merle,

The only Nicky I know is the daughter of a friend of my ex wife's who moved to San Diego back in the 70's and haven't seen them since. So.........I know it's not her. Like I said no one has my number so I know the person dialed a wrong number. That's what makes it funny. They will sit and wait for an answer they'll never get. If they had actually called the person and talked, then they would have gotten an answer.:)

Like you, I'm assuming a fury burger is the same as you mentioned, but never heard the term. Far as that goes, haven't heard the other terms you mentioned either. Guess I'm getting older than I thought.:)

Ed,

Can't text them back. I deleted the message and cleaned out the caller ID right after. If I had answered though, I would have set up a time like I said. May have even said we'll meet at some location, then of course no one shows up, just to teach them a lesson.

Did that years ago in the local sales office. Every day I was in the office I kept getting phone calls from about 11 AM on my direct line from people ordering pizza for lunch. There was a popular Pizza joint about a block away. If you didn't put your order in early, you'd have to wait in a line a mile long and probably go over your lunch hour. Their phone number was one number different than my direct line. Finally one day after getting the call from the same person all the time, I simply said, "What would like to order?" Then took their order.:D :D :D Imagine their surprise when they went to pick up that order. Never got another call from that person again. In fact, I did that with everyone else who called to order after that. Was my daily demon at work.:D

Good thinking Ed, especially if you are on a company computer.:D

By the way. I forgot to mention one thing about returning that text message with an answer. I couldn't do that if I wanted to, unless I wanted to waste the day or afternoon to learn how to send one line. I don't know how to send a text, and I'm proud of that fact.:)

I won't try to decode it but in your case it sounds like a error but also there are people using text message for ads I guess junk mail for cell phones. I just delete any text messages I get without reading them.

That's what I tell my wife to do when she gets one from a number she doesn't know. Guess I should take my own advise.:)

I really don't use my phone that much. Just got it in February. Since then, I've only had to recharge it 3 times and I've only made 2 calls on it. The only time I turn it on standby is when I go out by myself so the wife can call if she wants. Outside of text messages from AT&T, I think this was the first one I've ever gotten.

Possibly from o'furrys

Given the context I would think that is where they were going

Shel, I doubt that. We don't have O'Furry's here in Milwaukee area. The only only one I found was the one you posted. That's a long way just to get a burger. The text did come from a local telephone number, that much I know.

Norm;

I responded and took care of it. No further activity required from you. Next message she sends please foreward it to me. With this activity I may stop harrasing you for buying a new snow blower.

Don,

You can harass me all you want about that if you want. But.......I'll be smiling more this winter when I use it, and don't have to push it through deep snow. :) Just uncovered it last weekend, so it's ready for action now.:)

Norm that call may have been from a local number but you said already it was a missdial. Since area codes are required for texting perhaps it was the right number in the wrong area code.

I've received a couple text messages on my phone from the service

provider (Sprint).......I presume the purpose is to show this older model

phone can do text messaging. But I've never tried it as I think they

charge you extra for the service.

Bob,

I don't use the feature either as you can see. However my wife does with one of her friends. You do get charged for each text, but it's less than making an actual call. At least that's the way it is with the AT&T service we have on our phones. It's probably the same way with your Sprint service. I can also go on the internet with my phone and send email. However never bothered to learn how to do that either, and don't plan to. That can wait until I'm at home. I never set up the voice mail for the cell phone either.:) Someone wants to leave me a message they can do it on the office phone or home phone, and I'll call them from there. I never check my messages on the phones by remote.

A twenty-something passed us this morning on the way to work. She was at least 10 mph over and had her device held in both hands in the upper part of the steering wheel, texting and from what we could tell not paying much attention to her enviroment.

I will never crab about a regular phone call driver again!

I don't know how these kids do all that. They can't be paying much attention to any one thing they are doing then.

Last summer while visiting my mother in Kentucky one of my nephews was having lunch with us, and my nieces husband. While sitting at the table eating and talking (which he was very active in), he was holding his sandwich with one hand, eating, talking and with the other hand texting away with his girlfriend, all at the same time. Then he no sooner sent a text and put the phone down and she would answer him, triggering him to reply again. Forgot his exact age, but it's either 21 or 22 years old.

Tim I've been stuck listening mostly to the radio since the cd changer in the dakota died a few weeks ago. Decided it was time for a technology upgrade and bought a used Ipod off ebay last night. My radio in the dakota has Ipod controls built in.
