n1gzd_plymouth Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 I have a 1936 plymouth coupe with a TI0 Dodge truck engine (which I think is from 1951 or 1952). I have joined this group in hopes that people can answer some of my questions about my 230 CI engine (which is enough different than the original 36 engine that I could not find the answers in the manual). james curl Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Welcome, just ask any questions you want answered, someone on the forum will have the answer for you. We are divided between 218 and 230 engine people except the Chrysler and Desoto people who have the larger block engines. All of the Canadian built cars have the big block engines in many different displacements. Quote
mackster Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Welcome aboard! I am glad that you took the plunge. Quote
Frank Elder Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Mackster beat me to it but I echo his sentiments! Permission to cross the quarterdeck, and may fair winds be at your back. You will enjoy this forum immensely and learn at the same time. I'm not as savvy as some but will help when I can. Frankie Quote
Young Ed Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 I think your truck engine should have one for digit. The engine code for my 45 is a T116. Quote
NatesSedan Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Welcome to the forum. As said you will find this place to be very helpful. Have any pics of the coupe? Quote
n1gzd_plymouth Posted October 12, 2008 Author Report Posted October 12, 2008 I think your truck engine should have one for digit. The engine code for my 45 is a T116. On the block T3I0 is stamped but I understand that it really referrs to the 310 1 ton truch (1951-1954). Rebecca Quote

Normspeed Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 W-O-W. Great car. I sure like those coupes. How about chop, channel, c notch the frame, bag it and put on a tractor grille shell? Just kidding, welcome to the forum. And as you might know from browsing there are those among us who might just like to do those things:eek: Quote
Frank Blackstone Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 It's nice to have the point of view from the feminine side added to the forum. Quote
Normspeed Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 For sure. Rebecca, are you also a DeSoto fan? Quote
Don Coatney Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 Rebecca; Very nice car. I see you have Virginia tags on the car. Where in Virginia are you located? I live in Tennessee but I am on a temporary job assignment in Sterling, Virginia for most of October. Quote
greg g Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 Engine swaps were not uncommon as many engines met their demise at about 50 to 70K mikes. So the fix was to find a lowmilage donor vehicle and swap the engine. Todays paved roads better oil and better air and oil filters today make this less common. You might want to post the number over on the truck forum also. Just click on the Pilothouse forum and post it. Lotta good folks over there also. Truck engines and car engines are mechanically the same. Wonder if the swap was performed by a shine runner in its younger days. You can get a lot of mason jars in those bizzy coupes. ( I have a 46) Welcome to the forum. There is a member (lakota) from near Detroit that has one that is very similar, can't remember the exact year but its in your neighborhood. Quote

That will let you know what size engine it is. Otherwise just drive it and enjoy. From a 1ton I would think its a 230. Certainly a 218-either is better then the factory 201. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 In relation to any carbureator related problems, the air cleaner may be a bit on the small side and possibly restrict air flow to some extent. Nice looking car. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 I believe T310 would be an engine from a '51 or '52 1 Ton truck. That would make it a 230CID engine. Unless you need a "correct" engine for a "perfect" restore, I say run it. It's probably got more Umph than the original engine. Nice car, and welcome, Merle Quote
John Reddie Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 Hello Rebecca, Welcome. That is a swell coupe you have. I had a coupe just like yours only mine had the rumble seat. I bought it in 1956 for $25.00 and do I kick myself for getting rid of it --- all of the time. John R Quote
